Hey guys ,

1st of all , i really love this community . Read many posts and you guys are doing tremendous work.. just WOW

guys help me out with deciding which motherboard to buy. I have no idea what to buy because of lots of reviews and a wide range of mobos available. my budget is 300$ to 400$ dollars. Guys please refer me something which will have good performance and overclocking features.
( Remember my processor would be i73970x and mobo should be compatible with it )

my specs would be
i7 3970x ( will be overclocking with H100i)
gtx 780 sli ( though not sure which brand to buy )
corsair 1200 watts psu

thanks in advance :)

Can I ask what you'll be using the PC for?

You'll most likely be better off saving a lot of money and getting a 3930k, or waiting a month for the next gen 2011 CPUs to come out?

Well i will be using that pc for gaming , rendering videos and running few apps.

I dont mind waiting a month or two. Which CPUs are you talking about . Please give me few more details so that i am sure that waiting would be worth awhile. thanks

I'm talking about the Ivybridge-E series - the replacement of the Sandy-E.

There's very little point in getting the 3960x/3970x over the 3930k for the price - and the same with the latter Ivy-E chips.

There's the 4820k, 4930k, 4960x which should be a little faster, and if you can hold out for a month, you may as well.

thanks james .. well that was cpu but my main concern still remains unsolved .. which mobo to go for :( ?

price range = 300$ to 400$ dollars

Well with the new chips coming out, I'd expect new boards to come out too and so it's difficult to recommend anything right now.

I would say wait for the Ivy Bridge E cpu's to come, as there is no point in buying a Sandy Bridge E cpu at the moment, as they bring apparently native PCI-E 3.0 support and might overclock abit more but we don't know yet, well I should say some of us don't know yet as some will know, as I am pretty sure the review samples have already been sent out and tested.

Motherboard, I would say something from Asus or MSI personally as I have had bad luck with all my old Gigabyte boards, but I would wait for the refreshes of the boards to come out, since they will probably have a few extra features on them compared to the current models.

Graphics cards it has to be EVGA since, they allow you to watercool them without voiding the warranty but you need to keep the air cooler and screws etc, they also allow you to transfer warranty iirc and you can extend it to last longer.

Ivy-E us pretty close to being released and you said you can wait.. so wait. Better performance and a better chipset. Better overclocking with better boards etc. so you really have everything to gain by waiting.

Definitely wait for the new chips to come out. New chips = new boards so we can't recommend anything right now. Hope that helps!

love u all guys .. i knew there will be someone to help and to advise :)

i will definitely wait as i am sure u guys r pro and would suggest something better so waiting at the moment is better.

As for the gpu , guys any suggestion coz i wont be watercooling any gpus coz that is kinda higher level for me and the maximum i can do is only install h100i so can u recommend me any good gpu from gtx 780 cards. Thanks :)
