condensation

I'm sure things have changed a bit since I sub zero'd but we used dieletric grease in the cpu pin area and conformal spray on the mobo followed by layers of weather proof adhesive backed foam to insulat around the danger areas these days they use moldable eraser to fill in the gaps but I dont know if they still spray first. its funny I still have a roll of insulating foam tape from back in the day lol. I use it now for vibration dampening

I think Rawz used nail varnish when he did the DICE runs. Otherwise moldable rubber seems to be pretty standard.

I just got an brilliant idea... why not make an extender for the cpu socket? or am i just being stupid right now?

yeah nail polish is another way before applying the foam insulation

do you really want me to answer this one?????? muhahahahahahahahaha

You'd think someone would've started making specialised insulation just for DICE cooling

I'm sure there are some out there but they'd just be copies of what already works and they'd prolly double the price

Not if they can create an insulator than absorbs moisture but doesn't become saturated/ sodden

Liquid electric tape + lacquer spray / lacquer + dieletric grease + pipe wrap foam insulation tape was the concoction I used to insulate my 24/7 cascade boards and never had an issue.

that would be ok as long as there was a way to get rid of it. Most things like this just absorb and absorb til they cant anymore then bamm leak it out. Better off still preventing it all together.

I meant if it could cause what it has absorbed to evapourate at the same time as absorbing new moisture

eraser is the first layer.. covering the entirety of the cpu area.. from ram sockets to vrm area.

then a layer of shop towels..

finally elastomeric closed cell foam... i do this for all things subzero

only killed 3 motherboards

(before i finally figured it out)

There are many different ways and combo'. Each to their own preferred method. Best trying out what suits you best. Once you find your own preferred method of insulation, you'll setup in no time like a rhythm. The key is not to rush it. Rush it.. and you pay for your mistake(s).. literally.

Me? I use putty eraser around the socket covering that whole bare area and around the DIMM slots up to the southbridge. Best to remove all heatsinks so you know your covering the whole PCB area. I like to build up a raised area around the socket to catch any loose condensation build up stopping it from running down the board into missed areas or none-insulated gaps and cracks. Two layors of neoprene around the socket area nicely cut to match and fit around the pot and socket with vaseline around the socket and between the two neoprene sheets. Neoprene gasket around the pot (should come with your new pot) and then a towel of sorts or thick quality paper towel wrapped around the pot. If you are running phase 24/7 put vaseline or dieletric grease into the socket area. Same with LN2, don't need to with DICE. Vaseline and neoprene on the back of the board around the underside socket area too as condensation likes to build up there if uncovered. Put it between the mounting backplate and board.

When you insulate you have to also consider whether you need to rma or sell on. Eraser and putty are easy to remove without trace.

Liquid electrical tape on the motherboard, it peels off when not needed and leaves no residue and a layer of kneaded rubber eraser on top of that.
