Completely new build

This is going to be my very first build. I would like to say that I'm kinda green in the area and lost between all those nice numbers and choices.Advices for tweaking this build would be really helpful. Mainly this PC is going to be used for MMO gaming(Lineage 2, TERA) and couple SP titles like(DMC, PoP, SC II SP, AC, CoD, GTA other shooters/action/adventure/strategy) Came across this forum watching youtube guide in i5-2500k.

This is what I got so far:

Case: NZXT Phantom http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=605770

MB: Asus P8P67 http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=617978

CPU: i5-2500k 3.3Ghz http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=619274

CPU cooler: Stock till I'll feel ready to OC. Noctua DH14 or Corsair H70 for later.(Favoriting Air Cooling tho, just for feeling safer)

RAM Corsair Dominator DHX http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=590451

GPU: Gainward GTX570 Phantom http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=620660

SSD: Corsair F60 SSD http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=601323

PSU: Corsair AX 850W http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=600426

My budget for this build is ~1500 EU. However every saved EU counts towards bottle of Jack! or two.... Already got advised on other forum that for my needs i7-2600k is seriously too much and I would never use power of it for gaming so I drooped it and took i5-2500k.

As for future I plan to run with system with stock speeds for couple of months to see how it's working and later OC CPU and GPU.

Updated this one to keep it clean. Still have 10 days before i5 is in stock to tweak this new build. Will keep updating taking your advices into consideration.

Lookin' good!

Im not a fan of crossfire from my experiences, buy the best card you can afford at the time you buy it imo. The gains from crossfire isnt relitive to the incured cost, and you will have some issue with it.

If you stick with one card you can get a smaller psu due to no future expansion card and spend the saving on a beefier single card. uses less power creates less heat and make less noise...WIN...WIN...WIN...

thats my 10 pence worth

OK so I will be sticking with HD 6950. Also been reading that you can flash these to 6970 as they are identical cards, just bios that differs. I will not be taking Corsair H70 too because I don't plan to OC right from the start and will buy one later once I decide to OC.

Don't buy the H70 its IMHO a POS !

D14....

Get the 6950 and only re flash it if you feel you lacking in performance(you wont be so you wont flash it:0). For example: no point over clocking unless you need to imho, the same reason you yourself dont want to OC from outset?..no point voiding your card warrenty the day you get it?

Get the cooler that suits you, they are all better than stock, and the H70 is a nice, smart one, and around a good price I think for what it offers. I use a ninja 3 with no fans on it case fans in close proximity to cool the cpu(1x 140mm top of case and 1x120 at rear) I like silent builds...all a matter of choise. I also use it cos of old skool prestige.

Thx for advice on flashing GPU. If it's not broken, don't fix it right? Anyway planning to run the stock system for at least a month to see how it performs.

For data storage I have 1tb HDD in ice box. Planning taking it out and connecting to PC. 60GB SSD should be enough for W7 64bit PRO and 1-2 games. Prices of SSD are seriously high.

Hi Arwis, this is Cheenanah from blah:D.

It's looking quite good, I would have few suggestions though.

GPU: If u think about SLI/Crossfire this motherboard might not be the best choice since with 2 cards it supports your GPUs at 8/8 lanes instead of 16/16. I would probably go for best single card you can get and ignore CF/SLI. I've been using single 5870 for a while at 1920x1080 and it was absolutely killing Lineage. I am expecting Tera to be more user friendly, therefore the 6950 will be more than enough but you might think about sth like geforce 570? On another note, there are a lot of issues with Crossfire with specific games, I am glad to report that crossfire works without issues in l2.

Cooler: as inmate said, personal choice, I am running my T1090 at 4.0ghz stable 24/7 on H50 and tempreratures dont break 36 degrees. H70 looks nice in a case, and I doubt you will push your cpu to the limits like most of the member of this forum:).

Ram: Corsairs are great but I believe most of people here would recommend you Mushkins these days, there are few reviews on this forum, apparently they are top of the list now.

Other than that welcome to the forum, and feel free pm with any questions

alil bit more from me tho and this is complety personal preferance.

Ive always owned Lian-li cases and will never go back, just thought id mention they are awsome build quality and simple and effective design.

But I do like understated cases. the lancool is made by lianli and is also awsome check this out

Oh cool. Good to know I can ask you about how l2 is running under your system. Even tho l2 is not famous for its optimization 6870 is good to handle it with decent FPS at scenarios like sieges?

As for GTX570 I could go for this one: http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=620660#extra But this card is on very edge of the price limit. Also what MB you could suggest for future SLI? Since this one does not support SLI.

It depends what resolution you play at, but single 5870 was enough to have a very playable FPS during siege at 1920x1080 with full details. As far as I know tho L2 is based on old engine (Unreal if i rememebr well) which 1) sucks for mmoprgs, 2) is more CPU demanding. In my opinion it doesn't really matter if you go for 6950 or 570, both will handle with ease. 570 is just a bit stronger card, I guess more future proof.

Regarding the Motherboard I would have to sniff around to find sth decend. Socket 1155 is brand new and all motherboards supporting SLI/CF with 16/16 I've seen so far are bloody expensive. I am at work atm but will try to find sth in the evening when I get home.

Got one more. Was looking for intel recommended 1.5V RAM's and ofc found some. However the speeds are 1600Mhz etc. How does RAM speeds affects gaming performance(If at all) so maybe I could cut on this part too and get at least 90GB SSD.

I personally would just go for the fastest ram available and not stress over recommended intel voltage. Does fastest memory affect game experience? Not to the degree you would notice imo. Regarding to SSD size, I have 64gb Kingston with win7 home installed along all with all my work software (AutoCAD + bunch of engineering crap) ,Lineage and still about 18gb free. Big enough for my needs, Steam games work just fine from regular HDD.

With the greatest of respect, and that includes fellow members and not just the OP, anyone coming to me wishing to buy parts for a gaming pc and they mention having around 1500 euros to spend....

You have to have the best single gpu graphics card at the top of the list. Whatever the climate.

The rest you can argue about, imo.

Drop the Dominator ram and go for some mushkin =] http://www.edbpriser.dk/Product/Details.aspx?pid=4181464 then get NH-D14 and a GTX 570.

Job done =]

I see you have NZXT Phantom case, do you use side fan? If not, do you think noctua DH14 would interfere with side fan? Also what temperatures you are having on load? Read quite few reviews that side fan addition on Phantom's helps to reduce up to 10c if you going SLI/CF.

Looked at those some of the MB's. All are extremely expensive and I don't have that much to pay for.

Well the thing is that I don't wanna go super overkill(Thank god some1 advice me to droop 2600k and take 2500k). I have 1500 EU but I still need decent mouse, keyborb and some speakers. Also if I can save something from that amount it's great since if spent it all my next month gonna be very tight.

As for GPU I decided GTX570 http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=620660 Somehow I still have those past rumors about Radeon drivers having issues with games while Nvida ones were really smooth.

Mate I didn't say anything about any MB lol.. I said

1) Get mushkin RAM http://www.edbpriser.dk/Product/Details.aspx?pid=4181464

2) Get a Noctua NH-D14

3) get a Nvidia GTX570

Then you will have a perfect rig =]
