Very nice I believe they merged Beryl into this right?

When they get it to where I don't need XGL with ATI I am going to use this woot.

Yhea --- Its called Compiz-Fusion

AIGLX will be compatible with Ati Binary Drivers From the 8.42 Release (under a month to go) as well as giant performance increases

(Let them eat cake and rebel sir! )

Thanks for the info sounds exciting I always enjoyed Beryl I was just annoyed by XGL and its use of resources.

Meh, when compiz-fusion is stable I'll use it; unfortunately, it really just isnt' stable for me at all.

I find it V stable -- do u have an esoteric hardware config?

please remember an opensource app @ .5 is as stable as a M$ app + a service pack

Yea, normally I agree whole-heartedly with beta's being nice and stable. I'm running old hardware, 6600GT, Athlon XP-M 2600+ Barton, 1 gig of mem, nothing that isn't completely supported, and compiz simply crashes when i try certain things, and it causes some programs to crash randomly. Too bad cause I like it. This is when I ran it on ubuntu btw.

try again on slack ,the soft in slack generally tends to be much more 'pure' than Ubuntu (ie less forked /modded by Ubuntu/deb dependencies).

unusual tho Ubuntu post 6.10 with a nice supported NV card shd have run it beautifully (I am currently relegated to running it with XGL --- such a PITA)

NOTE FOR THOSE NOT IN THE KNOW:: (abridged + simplified version)

XGL and AIGLX are OpenGl accelerated X-window compositing systems -- Basically it allows the X Window System (the primitive of all GNU window managers) to enable Beryl/Compiz to create pretty effects. XGl uses a magnitude more resources than AIGLX, but certain Video cards do not currently support AIGLX only XGL

Lol, if it makes you feel better I tried to install gentoo :p and yea I installed it this time again because a friend of mine's repeated bugging, so yea i'm going with his word for the time being. Slackware, givin me the right to slack :P
