CM690 II black & white build

Hi guys,
I though I'd share my current build with the forum now I've got most of the parts in there. It's my first scratch build for over 10 years so it's good to get back to building rather than just upgrading cheap systems.
Anyway onto the pictures, some of them are from my phone so bare with the low quality.

Day 1, fresh out of the box. It's the one from ebuyer with the 600w PSU and more importantly for me the windowed side panel.

As you can probably tell it also has the ugly white section under the top mesh, that had to go. Luckily I had some spare black carbon wrap laying around.

Much better, you can't really see the carbon but most importantly you can't see the white. The white bracing on the bottom section still shows but that's not as bad as the top. I may paint that in the future.
Next up it was time to address the ugly vent in window (does anyone actually use those?)

It's amazing what a difference it makes.

Now that the case was looking how I wanted it it was time to start on the inside. I'd decided I wanted it to look as clean as I could get it with whire and blue being the dominant colours so I tried my hand at braiding the cables. It was my first time doing it but I don't think it turned out too badly.

I just wish I could have figured out how to braid that USB3 cable.

Time to get the hardware installed. This is only an interim set up to get the rig running, I couldn't wait any longer so it's all air cooled and I still have quite a bit I want to change.

The one thing that strikes me now is how much black is in there now. I'll be sorting that soon enough though.
Here's a pic with the side on.

Finally here's the marmite "mod" sticker bombing the side panel.

I ran out of stickers before I got the top left done

Still to come on the parts list is an XSPC raystorm kit (I'm not sure which rad to go with though, any advice would be welcomed) with mayhems pastel blue coolant, white bitfenix braided cables, white LED strips and some new ram as I just have some cheap stuff in there atm to get the rig running. I'm also thinking about wrapping the PSU in white carbon to cut down on the black inside the case. I'll most likely swap out the fans at some point too.

Specs:

  • cpu: core i5 3570k
  • board: Asus P8Z77-V
  • ram: 8gb Crucial Ballistix 1600 (interim ram)
  • gpu: EVGA 660ti ftw+ 3gb
  • ssd: OCZ Agility 4 60gb
  • hdd: Seagate 3tb
  • psu: Coolermaster 600W Silent Pro Gold

you had me until the stickers, but keep us updated.
another "trick" i use is to run the audio, USB and switch/LED cables under the motherboard.
then have them peek just under the lip and plugin.

just to keep from spanning the cable clear accross the bottom.. just a help.
keep it up

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that the next time I have the motherboard out.
I knew the stickers would be a love hate thing  They're all vinyl so if I ever change my mind about them it's a two min job to take them all off.

Nice looking rig there mate :). A lot tidier than mine is atm. Any idea where i could get a window like that? only on i can find is the black one :(. I would mod it but if i could find one cheap enough id prefer it.

Well its been a while since I did anything with this. Who knew trying to manage three expensive hobbies left you with no money for any of them
Anyway onto the little improvements. As everyone knows it's not a proper project unless you void at least one warranty so apart came the PSU for some white carbon love.

Next up a white carbon blanking plate for the back of the drive bays.

The water cooling hoses will coming through this one I get around to buying.

Also the eagle eyed amongst you might have spotted the bitfenix braided cables for the 24 pin, 8 pin and 6 pin.

The lower section of drive bay will be coming out too once I get a flat sata cable. My hdd won't fit in the top section with the 90° I have now.

That's it for now but hopefully my car will sail through its MOT next week so I can get the water cooling started.

Also anyone who doesn't like the sticker bomb side panel, good news it's going once I finish the build. I've decided on a theme and it just doesn't fit.

Now on to the part where I ask for advice. I've taken my DVD drive out, well disconnected it and my pc refuses to boot. I get to the windows loading screen get a flash of blue screen then it restarts. With the dvd drive hooked back up everything is fine.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Wow that is some white stuff!

Nice build, man. The PSU looks balls in white. Looking forward to the W/C.

No idea on the Windows problem, haven't used Win in ages :)

I have that same green cutting pad!

My flat sata cable came today so out went the lower hard drive cage and in went a white carbon blanking plate at the back.

I just wish I could solve the problem with the dvd drive so I didn't have to have it either hanging out the back of the case or sat on the floor inside it.
