Hey guys,

trying to decide which case fans to go with for my new CM 690 advanced, would obviously like a cool solution but being quiet is my main priority (also black as well, its my colour scheme

). have considered a few different fans, just wondering if anyone would recommend anything in particular or has experience with fans with this case.

Be Quiet! Silent Wings USC Quiet Case Fan 120mm - main one im looking at currently at

p.s. ive read about people controlling the fan speed etc by changing the voltage, i.e 7 volts or 9 volts etc, how do you do this? is this basically what a fan controller does?

thanks

If you are after something really quiet these Nexus 120mm Real Silent case fans are about the best for the price:-

A standard molex has 4 wires 1 red, 1 yellow and 2 black. Between the red and black is 5v, and between the yellow and black is 12v.

You can buy a molex to fan cable which will give you both high and low in a single cable.

Fan Adpater Cable

i.e. 5v for the red & black and 12v for the yellow & black.

I have used these cables to hard wire a fan to run at 5v so that it will run silently, however some fans do not start reliably at 5v. When these cables are used in conjuction with a 120mm Yate Loon or Nexus Real Silent case fan they are brilliant.

i have one of those bequiet fans. it moves a fair amount of air and isnt loud at all. probably not the best out there but still a pretty good fan.

Have a look for the Fractal Design Silent series - 1000RPM, 38.3 CFM @ 15dB with rubber mounts.

Haven't got a link, as I'm looking at the back of the box. Think I picked this one up from eBay.

Ps. As far as I remember from my acoustics lectures, the average threshold of human hearing is 20dB. I always aim for less than that when choosing fans.

Edit: http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/120mmfans/fd-fan-120 it is.

Edit 2: If it's the 690 II, it's got 140mm mounting holes. http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/120mmfans/fd-fan-140 does 9.0 dB(A) / 600 RPM / 39.0 CFM
