Civ 4 ?

What would be a good GPU for playing Civ 4 ? It needs to be an AGP card, and as affordable as possible but still play at about 1024 or 1280. I'm looking at an X800XL perhaps ?

Civ 4 is ideally DX9 isn't it ? I presume that the XL would allow use of all the bells and whistles ?

Great news - thanks ! My friend currently has a 9500Pro or similar, and he's finding it very hard going !

That's quite an outdated card... He could probably find a 9800 to replace it with for very cheap which would be heaps better than the 9500. You can find 9800XT's for about $150 these days.

Do you think a 9800XT would be enough though ? They are typically hitting around £80 on Ebay at the moment.

9800pro would be enough, they can be had for £50 on forum sales, HEXUS is always a good one to try.

I'm not sure he would really want to go second hand though, and he gets his stuff VAT-free. Do you think an X700 would cut it ? Or perhaps the X800GTO instead ?

get the x800GTO2 mate - great card and you can flash the BIOS to an x850xt :)

Those x800's are a bit more though aren't they? Or are they comparably priced with the 9800's?

kempez815, does that have to be a particular brand or model of card to flash the bios ? Sounds a bit too good to be true, but that doesn't mean it is ;)

Okay, a bit of research has put me in the know now - Google is my friend ;)

Biggest problem now seem to be that GTO2's are a bit like the pooh of the proverbial rocking horse... Anyone got any ideas where one could be bought ?
