Choosing a GPU

Hey Overclock 3D,

I am back again with another build question. I am running an i5-2500k on an ASUS p67 pro. I currently have my old gtx 260s in sli on it and they are doing a decent jo, but I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to the new gtx 560ti. Normally I would just go with EVGA and call it good because I have had great xp with them in the past. But after reading up on the card I have found that they might not be the best option. It seems the Gygabite super overclocked version and the msi twin frozr versions have the highest speeds and frame rates over all. My monitor resolution is 1920x1080. I do mainly photography work along with gaming on the side.

I was wondering what you guys thought was the better of the two, or if you thought ASUS or another company had a better alternative. I know I will get a good card either way but I prefer to , this will be cliche, get the most "bang for my buck." Currently in the USA the Gygabite 560ti its around $270 and the msi frozr is $250. I have learned though in the past that paying an extra 10 or 20$ is worth the money at times.

So what do you guys think?
 
Yeah, the gygabite version seems to take up almost two pci slots so I wouldnt be able to use one of my old gtx 260s for physcs if I wanted to. Not as fond of the look of the ASUS in all honesty haha, it doesnt matter because my case has no windows but just saying.

The frozr seems to be overclocked higher at core 880 and shader at 1760, while the ASUS is 830 core and shader 1660 mhz. To be truthful I really dont know what the difference in speed means just that higher is better. They both can probably be overclocked to similar speeds but I think I will choose the higher stock oc because then I dont void the warranty by doing it myself.

Just wish that they would drop down about 30$ in price. May be they will in the next month with the new nvidia flagship and amd 6000 series.. But thats just a hope..
 
A good thing about the gigabyte coolers is that they are a bit angled. So if you are running two cards the top card gets at least a bit more breath than the twinfrozr i think. Klick HERE to see what i mean. The card has a bit of a gap in the middle so it can breath better when using two cards on top of each other.... Just mentioning

Wow nice rig, I am building my rig now. I cant afford 2 of them as of now (darn you tuition). But I might some day. I am trying to decide between the gigabyte version and the msi version, bah wish there was a clear cut win.
 
I have a single MSI GTX-560Ti Twin Frozr and it's pretty darn nice. It's cool running if you have good case airflow,.......and it's doing a great job on PhysX all alone on the board. Two would do the heck out of PhysX, so I'm sure that you will not need a dedicated PhysX card anyway.
 
^ Thanks, Yeah after reading I figured they where both rockin gpu's. My question though is which will be more bang for the buck? The Gigabyte version is overclocked higher but not by much and has an indent between the two fans that I have been told now will allow for better cooling within sli.

The MSI twin Frozr is industrial grade parts and has plenty of head room to still be overclocked on, the problem is unlike the gigabyte fermi this one will be out of warranty then, not a huge issue but still a factor to consider. Again I have never bought a gpu from either of these companies and do not know much about them, except that msi is known for industrial/military grade mobos and apparently gpus and gigabyte is Asus' biggest competitor on the mobo front and has been around almost as long, besides that I really cant say I know any thing else about these two companies.

Guess I am looking for a few fanboys to try to give me a few reason why I should pick one over the other, Sigh oh well. I will be heading to my local micro center tomorrow see what they have in stock.

What did you get?
 
I am purchasing the gigabyte 560ti as soon as it comes back onto the market, I will post later how I do with it as far as personal benchmarks on the games I play. Thanks guys for the help.
