Looking at options for a GPU for a new build. Will be for games and productivity but all will be on only one monitor.

2 options I am looking at are:

Asus GeForce GTX 560 Ti 900MHz

Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti 822MHz 2GB

I am open to any suggestions or alternatives

Personally I would go with the 2GB version because with games like BF3 in 1080p it will go over 1GB; otherwise texture quality or anti aliasing will have to be turned down. Anyway I'm sure you can overclock the card to the extent the Asus one is without difficulty.

Depends how much you value memory. Apparently the one with more memory is slightly slower than the other one. I'm not exactly sure how much slower it is. So yea. It depends on what you want.

Since you are going to use only one monitor(I'm assuming 1920x1080), then I would recommend the ASUS one. There may be better alternatives out there, but don't count on me to find some. I'm a little busy atm. =T

What about the XFX 6950

What is this GPU like for overclocking? If it can get close to the 900MHz mark or beyond then the 2GB will help with handling more detail than the 560ti shouldn't it?

You should be able to get it close to 900MHz or higher, though every gpu isn't the same when it comes to overclocking. It will perform better than the Asus card because at stock frequencies it matches the 560 plus the 2GB of vram is a bonus.

Yea it's got to be 2gb, otherwise you'll have no future-proofing. BF3 is using around 1.4gb on max settings so getting anything less could lead to disappoinment now and definitely in the future.

A lot of people are holding on til ~ April for the Keplar launch, if you aren't in a hurry it will be worth the wait. Even if kepler isn't a massive increase it will lower the prices of the ati cards and 500 series nvidias.

I an not rushing into things so can wait until April for hopefully some decent price drops and possibly other options
