Chipset coolers. Which one?

Once I get my ASUS A8V board back from repair I want to replace the stock K8T800 chipset heatsink with something a bit more substantial.

After examining the duff board I noticed some blistering and discolouration of the laquer under the Northbridge chip. I believe this is where the problem is.

ASUS used to put fans on these but peeps complained about the noise.

Does anyone know of a cooler assembly that would replace the stock heatsink? I don't wanna go drilling holes in the board because the lugs don't line up.

(Someone on another forum suggested that, I'm thinkin :nono: )

I'd look in to the Theramlright HR-05 and then put a fan on it. It's compatible with about every current chipset mounting situation and being from Thermalright it's gotta be a good performer.

I've got a (so far unfitted) ThermalTake Blue Ice cooler

XMS has one on his P5B and apparently it's an excellent little cooler :)

Thanks FragTek.

'Scuse me while I Google :p

BTW. Are we having maintenance on the forum today? I keep getting "XML parsing failed: syntax error (Line: 1978, Character: 249)" when I click the "Overclock3D Forums" index link.

could take a look on titan vga cooler, used it as chipset cooler since nf2 and its a good fan and last long.

around 1-1.5 years for m and im very sensitive to the sound a bad fan does.

takes a couple of minuts to change the fan when needed and have mine running through a resistor to lower the rpm from 4500 to 3000 which makes it deadsilent.

The Jing Ting Forcetake Chipforce (JTS 0006) Offset Chipset cooler is a real good chipset cooler. Just ordered one for myself after reading some reviews.

I've heard great things about the Jing Ting heatsinks, let us know how you like it when it comes in. It will be nice to see a forum member comment on this product.

the only thing about it is you can only get it in the US and since am in the UK it takes a while with USPS to get it to me. Was order 3 days ago so hopefully itll be here b4 next weekend and ill do up a review.

Need to get find my camera 1st though

Yeah, international shipping can suck sometimes. It's a bit shady all around if u ask me. Any time I send something international I just pray to the computer gods that it makes it to its destination. I may be a lot of things in this world, but two things I'm most certainly not is a liar nor a thief. I'm always afraid that if it doesn't show up on the receiving end I'll be the one being blamed for steeling their goods, blah blah blah. I usually only ship to good friends these days, people I've been in touch with quite some time (namely the mods, admins, and a few others that I've had past dealings with). Ok that was way off topic, let us know how u like it when it comes in!

Not bad at all;) I await the review with baited breath;)

Now let's see $41, at todays exchange rate of 1USD=0.53p

That makes just over £29:90.

Now let's do it in the style of a UK supplier:D

 Sod that for a game of soldiers!! We'll round it up to the nearest £1 = £41:D

Right you can get back on topic now guys:D

It will fit north and south bridge and at £22 aint half bad. Very light, and the fan is oh so quite.

Very sweet mate, glad to see you like it! Can't wait for the pix, hope to see em soon. How are the temp drops?

Installed the unit last night and boyo what a result. A 13C drop in Southbridge temps on my DS3 board. A bit problematic to fit on the DS3 but its workable.

They gave me a little square felt sticker to protect the chip while the heatsink is installed but it was 2 small for the chip so i didnt use it.

Some AS5 on the chip and in the joint of the cooler and bam, installed and running cooler than i thought it would. Ill post some pics one i get home
