How does an 8800GTS running the default core and memory clock speeds; but with half the memory grab you? Add to that, the fact that the cheaper card may retail around US$299! Do we have a deal? Feel free to comment on the article below...

Special thanks to GrimReaper for giving me the link and heads up :)

Always left to me to be cynical..

Proves to me how much they initially sell them for as a "how much can we get away with charging for this". I don`t accept the arguement that will come of "oh but they`ve remade them" for obvious reasons.

How about these 7950 xyz cards ? They are obviously (to me anyway) priced at a tag in the same way - are they going to plummit too ?

They`d have to surely ??

These things always go down in price after early adopters buy them...dunno why you're suprised - plus half the memory on them will reduce cost significant;y.

I would have thought other nVidia lines will start dropping but I wouldn't buy them rather than an ATI varient tbh

There`s no supprize on how the market works Kemp, but I will say it`s a poke in the eye for all those manufs who`ve attempted to keep pre 8xxx cards as high priced as they can.

I would go so far as to hazard an estimate that if G80 cards didn`t come out until Q2 2007+, there would be a realization of some cards that `were` probably on the design tables of some manufs of a 7995 card (for example) that may`ve had 128m more mem, and a 50hz increase or something - to keep a retail in or around the £300+ mark.

Yea this is just the same thing with less ram to decrease price. Give me an 8600GTS or w/e. I want real midrange cards.
