Changing some parts in my M-ATX build

HI all,

I have my current M-ATX build some of the parts are getting old i want to do some changes to the build.

Current Build:
Motherboard: ASRock B75-PRO3-M
CPU: Intel i3-2130
Memory: Kingston DDR3 1333Mhz
SSD: OCZ Solid 3 120GB (Don't like this SSD, going to be changing it to a Intel one)
PSU: SilverStone ST60F-PS 600W (I'm guessing the PSU is way overkill, It was laying around doing nothing)
Case: Fractal Design ARC Mini R2

Update but a work in progress

Case: Parvum Systems S2.0 Micro ATX Case
Motherboard: Gigabyte H97M-Gaming 3 M-ATX (I can get it for a good price)
CPU: Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition G3258
Memory: Not sure as of yet (Need advice)
SSD: Reusing my Intel 530 120GB (It's in a different system but can use it)
PSU: Reusing my SilverStone ST60F-PS 600W (Current build)

Is there anything that you guys would change, I'm guessing the build is way overkill for what i'm going to use it for.

Isn't the CPU a bit of a downgrade going to the Pentium with no hyper-threading? Vengeance Pro of HyperX Savage would work well aesthetically with the motherboard.

But it should be fine for media playback i could be wrong, Just looking at the Kingston HyperX Savage the red is a bit different to the red on the motherboard.

Also would the onboard video be fine with that CPU

Yeah i'm sure the Pentium will be adequate for light duties, it just seemed like a little step back. I know ITX boards are expensive but have you thought about downsizing? No reason if you don't need the room I guess but you would certainly get the required power out of it. Are Veer 1.0's available in your part of the world yet?

Yeah your right, maybe it was just the photo i was looking at but i can get Intel Core i3 4160, 3.6GHz, 3MB Cache, LGA1150 CPU for A$149.00 atm save $30.

With the ITX boards it's kinda the other way around, M-ATX boards are normally cheaper than ITX cause the range is so limited.

Yeah that is what i was thinking TBH i don't really know much about the H series motherboard but i did do some searches and it seems to be a solid board, The next thing i need to work out is a CPU cooler i don't really want to use the stock one & case fans.

This time i'm just buying all of the parts from who ever is the cheapest

I would go with the Pentium. Your I3, according to the ARK only clocks to 3.4ghz. The Pentium Anni can clock to an easy 4.4 ghz which IMO will make it far quicker than the I3. Hyperthreading is supposedly around 30% the performance of a full core so I reckon you can easily make up for that with the extra clock speed.

I used to have a Xeon that was pretty much the same as the I5 2400 and the lame clock speed made it pretty useless. I used to get a min of 23 FPS in Crysis 3 and then when I switched to an 8320 @ 4.4ghz I got a min of 38.

In games that the I3 does well (IE low thread counts) the Pentium will do better IMO. Games that only use a thread or two absolutely thrive on clock speeds.

And then of course there's the obligatory 5% per generation. Your I3 is a Sandybridge, the Pentium is Devil's Canyon so that's two gens and 10% minimum.

As far as i know the H97 board don't really overclock unless i'm wrong with that, Some people have told me it's pointless me buying the Pentium Anni if i'm not going to overclock it, i know your not going to recommend corsair fans but which fans would you get, LED or Non LED.

I've got a B85N board and it overclocks (Gigabyte B85N Phoenix). If you look around you will also find plenty more B85 boards that overclock, most just need a bios update There are a handful of pretty cheap boards that will allow you to overclock the Pentium quite easily.

For fans I personally always use Cougar (or Lepa as they're also known). But companies like Xigmatek and especially Xilence make awesome, well built fans. The Xilence Redwings are among the best I have used though IIRC they do only come in red.

BTW you don't even need a custom cooler to overclock the Pentium. Just the crap stock one allows at least 4.2ghz with load temps in the 80s.
