Changing crossfire settings kills second monitor

HI I recently started having a problem with using two monitors and crossfire.

When i enable/disable crossfire it stops my second/extended display from working. The screen goes black and it just becomes unresponsive.

Turning my monitor off then back on at the mains fixes this. And i can continue using my pc as normal, with crossfire enabled. Even though this "fixes" it, it doesnt solve it, its happending almost everytime i enable crossfire.

I dont disable it myself, its like that when i turn my pc on (sometimes).

Currently im using 2 x dell u2711 and 2 x asus 6950(70) 2gb. Both monitors connected through display port, on the one card and running at 2560x1440

If i turn on display grouping then enable crossfire this doesnt happen, only when the displays are extended.

I have tried using the dvi, instead of display port and i cant even get my max res (2560x1440). The cable included with the monitors is dual link.

Even if this did work i only have two dvi inputs on my card, fine now but im hoping to get 3 of the u2711's and go eyefinity. So im guessing that would pose a problem there?

I know i can conenct via display port aswell but if thats causing a problem, then its no good right?

I was running the 12.4 drivers, updated to the 12.6 beta. Still no change.

My pc specs are also as follows.

Crossfire ASUS HD 6950(Unlocked) 2gb

i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz

8gb ram DDR3 1600mhz

p8p67 pro rev 3.1

240 gb ocz agility 3

1tb hdd

antec high current gamer 900w psu

Apreciate any help people can give.

I have had a similar issue in the past, it turned out that the problem wasn't with the computer it was input detection on the monitors, as for the not getting full resolution out of DVI is you will probably find that one of the ports on your card is only single link. so when you turn CFX on/off change the input selection on your monitor and see if anything comes up.

12.6 as far as I know only has a few CFX profiles in it. 1 for Diablo 3.... That makes it run worse smh.

I played around with changing the crossfire settings and my monitors input.

If both monitors are set to display port so i see my full/extended desktop the second one blacks out and none of the buttons work, cant change input. This was ofc my problem

But if i change my input on the second/extended monitor to hdmi, then change my crossfire settings the monitor keeps working. Even flicking the crossfire settings on and off doesnt break it.

The if i switch back to display port everything seems fine. The monitor works, as normal.

So whenever i need to change my crossfire settings i need to change my monitor input then change it back. I really dont understand this tbh, any ideas as to why this happens?

Also ty for the help.

when you disable or enable crossfire it essentially turns off your drivers and graphics cards and the turns it all back on again in a different mode. Now when your monitor detects that the display input has turned off, the monitor will switch to the next display input that is active. now there is a little uncertainty as to why it switches to a display that is not active. I know that my monitor does it, but my old monitor didn't. Now if you have multiple inputs plugged into the screen it could be causing the issue. Do your monitors support daisy chain connections? If so configure it so that its [tower]-[displayportcable]-[monitor]-[displayportcable]-[monitor] and see if that makes a difference. also make sure there is only 1 input plugged into both the screens.

The only things pluged into either monitors are the cables to the display port. My main monitor also goes out to my speakers (im using the sound on the displayport)

And it doesnt look like my monitors support daisychaining, im assuming that the monitors would need two displayport inputs for this?. Monitor docs.

I never turn crossfire off apart from recently as ive been trying to solve this problem.

sometimes its already disabled when i turn my pc on even though its enabled when when i shut my pc down. I only turn it on when i go to play a game. So not that often tbh.

Its not really a major issue, but i thought i would try and sort it out anyway.
