As consoles get closer to being just a glorified PC, it has to be a thought if microsoft or sony consider having a console that can have steam installed, this would in theory open a wider market for all involved

For sure [the Scorpio] will have better looking games,
If this was available when we were working on Wild Hunt I would expect similar quality that we have on PC right now or even better maybe.

Alex the kidd would have looked much better if the hardware was available.=00=

I'm confused. One sentence says Project Neo (Sony) and the next sentence says Project Scorpio (Microsoft) then again back to Neo then back to Scorpio..... In the end is he talking about the upcoming Microsoft console or the upcoming Sony console??? They will be VERY different (Scorpio will be even more powerful than Neo) so you cannot talk about the two like they are the same thing.

Well there's only so much you can do with a game on PC when it's being limited due to crossplattform support. Pretty sure the PC version would look even better if it was an exclusive.

Umm....no kidding? If it was an exclusive it wouldnt be on consoles which means all devotion would be to make it the best on the pc.

As for the console "haters" out there...consoles have there place for ease of use, portability, size, PRICE, and overall can be better than a pc in those aspects. Of course the neo / scorpio will be "about" an average mid / semi high range pc (im talking like an 800USD pc) when it LAUNCHES, but not anytime after that.

Also consoles arent limiting the performance, yada yada of pc and or games on systems / pc...its the fact that developers are never given enough time to properly test each system out with every aspect of the game. Yes the xbox and ps4 have DRASTICALLY lower end hardware than a pc even at there launch dates, but that doesnt mean the pc version HAS to look / run that way. The devs just dont care to change it for pc since its easier, less time consuming, financially beneficial, etc for them to make it a bit better than consoles but also not have to change core aspects of the games graphics, etc to make it work "so much better" on pc. Since then they have to actually be able to check out completely different bug reports / updates to the game /etc etc when problems occur...again not financially beneficial at all. Its all about money, that wont change.

"Rival Gaming PCs" for about 2-3 years which is still half as long as the projected lnegth of this console generation.

"Consoles aren't limiting performance" followed up by an explanation for why consoles are limiting performance. Fantastic. Whether you like it or not a company has to keep finances in mind, you can't run a company if you don't have a sustainable business model. It's not about a lack of caring or greed, that's the simply the trade off you get for making a crossplattform game.
My point is that this article implies that Scorpio can rival gaming PCs even though the only reason for it being capable to run or even beat the current PC version is that the consoles limited the PC version in the first place. I've got no problem with consoles, i've got a problem with bad comparisons.

"This is my personal opinion: I don’t know that much about it."

Yep that probably covers it. Nothing to see here, folks.

What you quoted is not relevant to what the topic is about. That's cherry picking words out of context.
His opinion on growth of PCs and the frequent releases of PC Graphics cards means Scorpio will be on par with PCs now, but since they release so often(ie GPU), it will outpace Scorpio anyway.

In the end his opinion on growth doesn't matter, we can look up facts for that. But fact also is PC is growing. So he would still be right even though if it wasn't it wouldn't change the fact by the time next year it releases, we'll already have more powerful cards anyways

By the time Scorpio comes out we'll have moved onto Vega and Big Pascal which will probably be over the 10TFLOP mark.

Hell, Even current mid end cards are over the 6TFLOP mark and I'd much rather play on a 480X based system than own only a console which has many limiting factors, Based on my recent console experiences.

As the console and PC markets continue to merge along with software utilized, it still seems crazy to me (and I'm sure it's in the works) that there isn't currently a console utilizing a thunderbolt-esque port to tack on a new/replacement GPU resource?

From what I understand there is very little money made on console hardware, if any, so by adding a solution that is a single plug the developer is not risking losses. Maybe the GPU is powered by a power brick given how stinking efficient everything is becoming. Maybe the (weaker) integrated graphics are utilized for UI or other tasks or maybe by being an add-in processor such as an old GTX card lying around for Cuda/PhysX?

I guess there is, as in PC building, a rush of purchasing a new platform vs upgrading an existing machine, but I imagine the market of people looking to invest $200 for an additional processor/GPU for a console while retaining all other current hardware investments, would be higher than the group prepared to drop double or triple that amount for a full new setup.

Just seems crazy with ideas of efficiency and sustainability being large parts of any production and use scenarios that a more efficient hardware approach isn't used as well. I'm willing to bet the imbued energy to create an entire console complete with all of the design and manufacturing necessary would dwarf that of maybe upgrading the 'core' console 50% of the current frequency by upgrading the most limiting factor.
