Hello all, this is my first post on OC 3d forum, sorry if this is the wrong section I post in. I'm building a new system and I have questions conserning case and PSU.

OK, hope to not make this thread boring, let's start by specs:

-ASUS p6t deluxe OC palm

-Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366.

-OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 CL 7-7-7-21.

-EVGA GeForce GTX 285 SC Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3.

-WD Caviar Black 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s.

-WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s.

-Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 120mm SSO CPU Cooler.

-Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound.

-SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe

Case questions:

I choosed the XCLIO A380plus-BK full tower case, want to know if the gtx 285 will fit in this case or not, and if the noctua cpu fan will fit or not. I installed a system a week ago with a thermaltake armor junior case, and i had to remove the HDD rack in order to let the vga go in place.

PSU questions:

well... currently i have a cooler master real power m620 ssi standard eps 12v v 2.91 powering:

-asus maximus extreme

-cpu core 2 quad q9300 running at 3.2 since 8 months or more

-4 x 1 gb gskill 1333

-asus 9600 gt 1 gb

-samsung spinpoint hdd 750 gb

-dvd writer

-tv tuner

-creative sound blaster audigy 2 zs

-thermaltake v1 cpu fan

-3xthermaltake 12 mm case fans

Do you think this PSU is good also for my new system? if yes, then I will ask, will a PSU cooler master true 400 w that come pre installed with the cooler master elite case is good for the old maximus pc? If yes then I will simply switch these PSU and use what I have.

If non of the above is aplicable I will go for the CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W, it's at 110$ and looking good, only what I love to see is modularity for the PSU, so it's, or the old 620 real cooler master modular or some pretty good modular PSU that you can point me to, or the corsair that I choosed.

A final note that I have intention to do ovecloack on the new system to the maximum level i can reach.

If you are spending so much on the system I think you need to spend a bit more on the case. No point putting a ferrari engine in a skoda
 
since m choosing parts from newegg, i have to choose from the available parts there, i couldnt find the antec 900 there, but for the case anyway, i revised all the cases in the range 100-150$ and i have some cases to choose from, and for the PSU i have budget not more than 130$.

a titan water cooled case that support large vga as gtx 295, and for 120$ only, it doesnt support core i7, but i think to buy a some core i7 bracket from other brand such as cooler maser or zalman, and try to adapt it on the cpu block. what do u think????

dunno why, but everywhere on forums i read that WC is not effective unless it's done and not purchased as kit, and on the other side i read the customer replies on newegg on their purchase in a positive cooling from WC kits or cooling system, let's be honest and simplify it:

-i want or look for WC for 2 reasons, better cooling environment for OC and good looking things in the case.

-on the other hand i dont like WC for not being frustrated of leaking or pump failure or air bubels , and not getting a better cooling than a good air cooling but 2 to 3 deg c.

yes i admit the WC preinstalled in cases is not good as kit, and kits are not good as made one, but the question still, is the air cooling such as noctua (good and positive cooling from all forums) is it still better than the low end WC?

if this is the case than i will and i have to take the decision coz time is runing and m just selecting, so i will go with air cooling and for noctua, unless someone have a better choice.

for the PSU my first question and debate is still there and wish to hear some highlighting, if not i will go for the corsair non modular for it's performance and price.

for the case i have to choose anything btw 100 and 150$ max coz really i will pay a lot for shipping and taxes maybe same price for the complete system :)

tbh mate low end water and kits should be missed all together.

A well put together custom kits is whats needed, you have an i7 which when overclocked will create enough heat to make the polar bears start sweating.

So you need a good case and some good water unless your going to turn the heating in your house off

@ PeterStoba, thanks for the link, i didnt find it myself coz i was looking for the 900 v2 wich is for 70$ more and only for a new top fan design and inside black paint.

I have to say thanks guys for this recomme3ndation, i think it's the best for the price, i like the design, the cooling looking very promising and effective, someone on newegg confirmed that a gtx 260 fit well with no prob. I have to say that i picked this baby.

As for the PSU i tooked the combo antec with the case :)

Antec TPQ-850 850W Continuous Power ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC

antec 900+antec PSU 850 modular =260$ after a saving of 110$

xclio+corsair 750 non modular =250$ after a saving of 70$

I think and hope that the antec PSU is good enough and will fit my setup and not embarase me under the OC, coz the shopping cart is ready :)

should i order by tommorow or anyone there have a final word?
 
yes and the only modular PSU that they have are:

CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX for 240$

CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX for 140$

CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX for 110$

the case alone is 100$ wixh is a great deal, and i get it with the antec 850 PSU as combo for 250$, this deal is not valiud for the corsair PSU, and I still cant find the difference btw both antec and corsair, since a lot of customers are happy with both, and i hope i will be one of them. Other thoughts?
 
PeterStoba mentioned the Antec Nine Hundred. You may also want to look at the Nine Hundred Two that was released a short time ago. That can be had for about $120 US.

corsair PSU is what i did choose at first, but i prefer a modular one and the antec comes along this preference with a good 850 w and design, again price to value.

hello man, yes i saw the v2 of the 900, but it's rated at 160$, and v1 rated at 100$, and v2 have only black inside color and redesigned case top, and tbh i like more the 900 v1 case top with it's pocket so i can put at least the OC palm of my p6t deluxe board from asus :)

when i saw v2 i would expect that they rotate the hdd rack to make more clearance for big graphics card, or add a motherboard tray, or redesign the side panel fan so it will not inbterfer with the big i7 cpu aftermarket fans, but only for internal black color, i will go for v1.

man you are making me crazy hesitating here, after checking ur links, i found that the COOLER MASTER ATCS 840 RC-840-KKN1-GP is good also, on the cooling side as well as it's flexibility and simplicity.

and after doing some change in the combos game, i get the same final price for the complete system in 2 cases:

1-antec 900 + antec 850 modular psu

2-cooler master ATCS + corsair 750 nonmodular psu

at the same time 4100 customers on newegg votes 5 eggs for the antec 900, and 22 only votes 4 eggs for the coolermaster, yes i know maybe this is not real math, but i'm really confused here.
 
I had a 400W Chieftec PSU running:

Q9450@3.2

P5Q-E

8GB

4 x WD 640

8800GTS 512MB 700/1000

DVDRW

3 x FAN

Worked flawlessly for months.

I've upgraded the 8800 to an GTX295 and switched the PSU to a 750W Corsair TX. Works flawlessly.

I think you guys overestimate the power requirements for a system.

So, my answer is: YES the 620W PSU will work with the new i7 system, unless you want to SLI that 285. Then you'll need 750-850W (depending of quality).

and finally, YES the 400W will power your old system, taking as a reference my 400W config.
