Car insurance woes.

I understand why the premiums are so high, unfortunately young boy racers have given young drivers a very bad reputation, it's just annoying that we're all tarred with the same brush, tis all. Still, I may very well fail my test, in which case all of this is just academic :D

Dont worry about it, just keep calm, dont over think things and you'll do fine.

Then as soon as you pass - forget all the BS they tell you about checking your mirrors every 7 seconds and stuff like that. My favourite one is if you're turning right, having to check your right wing mirror for something overtaking you. IMO, if people are stupid enough to overtake a car on the right hand side, while it's got it's indicator on they deserve to be hit :)

it took me 2 attempts, first attempt i got minored for being too observant, i also apparently nearly crashed into a rail, at a place where i was in the middle lane nowhere near a rail... not to mention the examiner lady would not shut the hell up trying to talk to me at the worse times.

Second time was a breeze, but i the tests really arent as bad as they seem.

The manoeuvres arent even that hard tbh. They test more for control of the the car and observation than actually doing it well. You can even put it into 1st, go forward and straighten up and still pass it fine. If you're nervous you tend to overthink everything, meaning you react far slower.

In mine, the examiner asked me what I wanted to do in the future, to which I said I wanted to be a Pilot in the RAF (not anymore btw). That was like within the first 5 minutes of the test. Straight after that, did a parallel park, then straight after that the independent driving, which only took me into around 15/20 minutes of the test, after which the examiner said: 'I was in the RAF for 15 years.' Then just spoke to me about that saying it was the best career choice ever for the rest of the test. Dont even think he looked at my driving after the first 15 minutes!

Note to self: discover examiner's previous career choice!
And no, I know that as long as I take my time and think clearly I should be just fine.

You both give me hope, thankyou.
Just as long as I don't have to do left reverse round a corner :)

There was this one route that i was hoping i wouldn't get because there was a left reverse on it that was so tight i never ever did it once. Unfortunately in my first test i got that route and that corner, and i did that left reverse without fail, so it is amazing what you can do when it comes to it with stuff like that mate. You may surprise yourself

Funnily enough thats all we discussed on my second test, the air force, the guy was great, i was hoping to join the air force, he had family in the air force and thats all we talked about for the whole time. i got 3 minors, first one i had to do was a 3 point turn, i left it in reverse by accident but was far enough away from the side to avoid hitting it, which he mentioned at the end and said he let me off as a result, Second was undue hesitation for waiting to let a learner go, and i cant remember the third. I had parallel park and parking in a bay both of which where ok. My second experience ws nothing like the first.

lol insurance. my favoutie topic last year i was driving a £20k vw scirocco 1.4 tsi and my insurance renewal for this year was gonna be 1200 quid. i bought a £46k land rover discovery 4 and my insurance is £800 lol im 24 a while back i check how much it would cost for a twin turbo supra which is over 12 years old the insurance was 1500 more than the car would have cost lol. ins is all over the place brobeans wait till your 25 then you can finally drive what you want and stick witht the crap till then haha

As above try and control your nerves and it will be over before you know it. The test only lasted about 25 minutes for me. I passed on my second attempt though as the first time round I drove into a no entry zone (luckily no other car was coming towards me). The sign was slightly hidden behind a tree (well that's my excuse :p), so it was difficult to see.

I just got a new quote emailed to me by moneysupermaket, they apparentl updated my info based on a year later (so added a year to everything) fully comp on my own on an X reg fiat punto, £1995 a year. I then refined the results, added my mum as a second driver, dropped it to 3rd party fire & theft, dropped it to £1691 a year cheapest i have ever been quoted

Yes, but it's only third party dude, which means you will not be covered. What happens if you add your mum as a second driver to the full comp quote?

A major :)
The instructor told me to turn left, first exit, at the mini-roundabout.
There were cars parked on my side of the road, and there was oncoming traffic - I should have stayed behind, but didn't, so there was a really tight gap.
Can't believe that was my only major to be honest. I stressed out and forgot to change down after coming to a halt at a big roundabout. Pulled off, albeit successfully, in third. Thought that would have been a major also.

Unlucky mate. Not as bad as my mate who got 26 minors - 2 for: 'making the examiner feel uncomfortable'. You'll pass next time! dont worry.

On a slightly related note - anyone have any experience in challenging parking fines? :)

26 minors...that's insane.
Alas, thankyou to you both for your kind words :)
Hope you can successfully challenge your ticket, also.
How about you, Yassar? - what did you fail on first time?
