Cannot reach boot temp after failed USB connection

Guys,

Need some advice for Smokie ... he installed my ex-GT yesterday and had everything working fine, however, after trying to connect the USB to his mobo tonight the GT now reaches 45 - 49degrees and does not make it to -50 to allow the PC to boot. It looks like connecting the USB wrongly confused the prom, since after unplugging the prom & PC for 20 mins and then restarting the prom reached -50 BUT since the PSU was not powered the prom shut down again - doh! I have done this many times too, however, after turning on the PSU the prom is back to getting to -45 and not starting the PC:confused:

There is plenty of sealstring around the head and the screws judging by what smokie has described so that doesn't appear to have anything to do with it.

Smokie only has this PC so can't post questions on the forum without his PC, so if anyone can make sense of this behaviour or offer any suggestions I will pass them on.

You never know, after a night of being unplugged the prom might just chill down to -50 and get back to normal.

Well you were right mate!!

I plugged it all back in and she went right up to -60°C and booted the pc (made sure the PSU was turned on this time)

Then it raised to the usual -46°C and has stayed there for over an hour now!!

Although it seems to be sorted. What the hell was going on?? Anyone know why the mach wouldn't reach temperature? could it be something to do with the temp probe in the mach's head??

Hope someone has an answer to this!!

Cheers

If the unit has been recently moved it tends to need to be left for up to 12hrs for the internals to settle and repressurize before it'll perform at it's best...

Ah it was only left for about 5 hours

Although when i first used it it worked find it now seems a few days later i'm having the issue of it not reaching start up temps!!

After this mornings success i tried to start it up again after turning it off for a while and it wouldn't reach the start up temps again so i unplugged it all and left it as before and it work again!!!

Any idea whats going on??

Thanks in advance

Smokie

Dont think its a refrigerant issue cos once its up it works fine. Just overclocked my 3400+ A64 to 2.6gig and the head is holding well at -43°C under load!!! CPU is cooled to -15°C under prime95!!!

At idle both temps go down...CPU -33°c and evap head to -45°C

Going to crank it up some more though cos i'm still only on 1.55v vcore :)

I did come across a firmware on this website

http://www.crazypc.com/support/nventiv/nVENTIV.htm

It mentions that its for A64 setups with startup issues. Doesn't mention my board so not sure if it will work?? Is it worth a try or could i damage my Mach??

Also when updating the firmware is it wise to do it at stock speeds??

Cheers

Ok i tried the bootloder program and it says it can't find the mach II even though the USB is plugged in and now working.

I've looked in the help files but doesn't mention anything.

How do you use this bootloader??

Cheers in advance

ya need to install the drivers for the mach 2 .go to device manager and update the drivers for the mach 2 .if this dont work uninstall all the software reboot install the software with the usb connected

Right i've manage to get bootloader to work. It was my hardware monitor software causing a conflict!!

Anyway flashed it with the firmware animal gave me and flashed fine. Although its still not reaching the -60 at startup like it used to. I've set it to boot at -40 for now. Once up and running the evap head runs at -43 to -44.

It used to do -60 but guee that was a fake temp.

I have noticed though if i shut down the pc and leave the mach plugged in. When i restart later on it takes awhile for it to reach boot temp. If i unplug the mach from the wall so it gets no power when i turn it off it will boot much faster and go to the -60 temps, these do go back to the -40's but been told this is normal.

Hope some of you can clarify this

normal speed. The fast do go quicker when i turn it on like they are supposed to. But when i try and change the fans in the control pannel they are un responsive then later on they will respond to what i set them at later!!!

Somethings not right here :(

Do you have your system under load?

I noticed that if I have my system under 100% load constantly then the fans don't spin up to turbo BUT if I sit at below 25% it changes instantly!
