Ok i am new to the forms but i was wondering since this is a computer tech site that yall would be able to help me see if my motherboard would be able to run a new processor.

This is my motherboard:

Dell Inc.

Model: 0FJ030

Chipset: I945P

Intel

Intel Pentium D 930

Curent power:

i think that is all you would need. well i am looking to upgrade to a intel core 2 quad. i just wana know if there is one that would support my motherboard.

Hiya BioQuack and welcome to the forum

As far as I'm aware (and anyone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) the best processor you can get is a higher 9xx series Pentium D. That chipset doesn't support any of the Core 2 processors.

Edit: There might be some slightly better Pentium dual cores you can use... Bear with me, I'll go check.

Edit again: I looks like I may have been wrong... This link on Intel suggests differently but with your machine being a Dell, it would very much depend on the BIOS support and also other factors.

Yeah, I would think it's more than likely be better to start afresh.

Obviously it depends on your financial situation but you can build a pretty decent PC for a very reasonable price these days.

What a lot of people do when asking similar questions is give a rough budget and some of the guys on here will have a little look around all the shop sites and put together a build for that budget.

Mate of mine recently bagged a Phenom X6 1035T (oem only CPU)

6gb Kingston DDR3 (2x2 2x1)

Samsung F3 1tb

Sony Optiarc DVDRW

Radeon 5770

etc for £498. The price on Dell right now for that machine is £850. And I would strongly imagine it would be darn tough to even build one for that price based on any Thuban with that ammount of ram in etc.

XPS Studio 710 or something IIRC. Nice looking wee bugger and had a proper PCIE slot in it too
