Can i use my PC without a case?

Hi, I currently have a case but I'm not happy with it so I'm going to return it. If I return it, while I'm waiting can I just have my PC laid out on my desk and use it, if so what should i put the motherboard on? Should I keep it on the standoffs, it's only gonna be for a couple of days.

Put it on the box the motherboard came with, simple

the cardboard of the box is the insulator. just dont use the anti-static bag between
the box and motherboard. you will not need standoffs... the box is enough.
