Can i overclock my computer?

I dont know you guys opinions on this, but i think they should bring back the old jumper system for OC'ing, i mean it takes a while, but im running a celeron 400 at 550 mhz, imagine what you could get from modern processors..of course using jumpers would mean that you would have to set the cpu up yourself, but surely isnt thwere a way a board can have a bios setup page AND a set of jumpers to do manual overclocking, unless of course this already exists lol

hmm problem with jumper overclocking is that not all settings "just work" anymore. it depends on all the other compinents on your comp and so odten these jumper methodes would become unstable.

i understand your point, im having to use 133 sdram on the old computer to acheive a stable OC, plus a lare socket a fan and h/s, so i suppose when that computer of mine came out in the neolithic age it wouldnt have been quite so easy to alter

does the celeron have a voltage regulator built in? ive just noticed that in the bios, the v core gets corrected to the right level without me touching the voltage jumpers.

when i restart it keeps it stock frequency s and everytime i do it i have to reset them

when i went over 2.46ghz it got up a blue windoe saying that windows encountered several critical errors and so on help will be repped

Bump the voltage a tad more if u can do so safely temp wise.

Also slack up the mem timings a bit as kempez said to see if it lets u get any farther. If not, looks like u've found ur max overclock.

Run SuperPi 32m or P95 Torture Test for a few hours and see if it doesnt error out to make sure that where ur at now is 100% solid.
