Calling all Lian Li G70 owners: help please

Feel like a change this year and so i have decided that i will be selling up most parts of my current rig including the case for something a bit smaller and more practical which won't take up much room space.

Just wondered will a PA160 with the shroud and a Papst fan (30mm depth) fit at the bottom front of a G70?

Bearing in mind the G70's dimensions as follows: 210x595x588mm (W,H,D)

Could you also spend a few minutes of your time to help me measure up the parts of this case.. which will be necessary for my next computer rig. The reason i ask is because i don't want to buy the case just yet.. only to find out that i won't have the space needed and end up sending it back which will be a major hassle.

Here is a better picture of what i'm trying to achieve. The inlet/outlet of the top rad is undecided... depends whether there are holes at the bottom of the PSU bracket rather than a solid plate.

If you have msn, pm me your address and we can discuss further.. im 70% sure that i'll be seeling everything off.. its just a case whether i can fit all the stuff i want in the G70

That looks like a fair plan. I can't see any immediate problems with the layout. I have a PA160 in my Lian-Li and it's a real nice fit. Please do a photo thread of this when you come to build it - it's quite an interesting one :)

Seems there is only 200mm between the bottom of the floppy/hdd bay and the bottom of the g70.As the PA160 is 214 mm high,i doubt it will fit,and it will not fit if rotated 90 degrees either as the total internal width of the g70 is 205mm.Btw,the bottom of the top psu bracket is perforated with 20mm (approx) holes.

The PA160 will not fit if rotated. You may have to cut into the floppy area for the G70 type case. On my Lian-Li (PC-60) I could remove the bays, leaving plenty of room for the radiator to fit.

He wouldn't be able to cut into the floppy/hdd cage and get 2 drives in it.If the lower hdd were sacrificed, then the cage could be modded to provide sufficient clearance.Alternatively, the cage is removable, and the drives could be placed in the lower hdd cage, which would be relocated further back behind the rad/fshroud/fan assembly, although something would have to be done to mount the floppy bay faceplates.

Hi Carbine,

Thats gonna be one awesome setup mate, Im already envious!

Heres the measurements your after, I hope they help you out:

Ive given you both the total external measure and the internal measure for A

A: 555mm (INT) 589mm (EXT)

B: 25mm (EXT)

C: 114mm (INT)

D: 440 (INT)

E: 135mm to the first stud hole from the bottom of the case (INT)

F: 200mm (INT)

G: Yes there are holes in the bottom of the PSU tray, its the same as the HDD tray.

H: 395mm (INT)

I: 267mm

J: 153mm

If there is anything else you need I will try and help out as best I can!!

Thanks a bunch guys.. and thanks very much Artic.. much appreciated.

I will be looking in towards buying the case... 'after' i have pass my driving, as lessons are burning a hole in my wallet... so i'd rather wait till thats finished than anything else.

Got my test booked on the 20th March so hopefully by then will this system be given the go-ahead.. and of course, i will post pics of how its coming along.

I also revised the planning a bit more and decided to go fully Aquacomputer not only because it'll be a tight fit with other components.. but i gotta think about quietness and tidyness in mind.

The PA160 will be switch with a PA120.

The pumps will be either:

Hardwareluxx Laing DDC Dual Attachement Inc 2x Pumps 18w

Laing DDC-1 Ultra 12volt Pump with Plexi Top x2

Situated at the very back of the case beind/below the PA120.3

All into one big loop... for the moment. I will, however be overclocking the CPU but i haven't found a particular reason why i'd overclock the GPU, its a monster in itself. :p

In the pic, i only plan to have one graphics until i get a bigger monitor, will then i fit a second graphics as its not needed at this moment.

Maybe a list of what i plan to do to this case:

*Case exterior will be anodized either purple/Violet, blue or red (undecided)

*Case interior will be chromed

*Radiators will also be chromed

*HDD rack at the bottom front will be completely removed to make way for the rad.

*2 large fan brackets in the pic will also be removed.

*case will be covered with Acoustipack Sound proof mats

*Side panels will have a laser cut design (undecided design)

*LOTS of LED's

*And of course will be ultra tidy

*Custom made CMOS switch located top back PSU slot

*Replace power switch with Bulgin

..still thinking more

Don't forget your friends when it comes to buying the case Carbine - I may not advertise it but I can get almost anything ;)

hehe yeah.. i was gonna ask you to get me a G70 with a custom cut tripple blowhoel at the top... i would do it myself.. but not only will i not have as much time as i'd like.. i get bit too busy at times. I seem to mod/work on cases very late at night and i don't think the neighbours would like the sound of cutting/jigsawing at 1am :D

You could also sort out all the anodising so that it arrives ready looking shiny and nice :D

That would be a possibility but i don't know just yet as i wanna cut some designs on the side panels.. and doing that before anodizing would be ideal. So if it was messed up, i won't be worried as it won't mess up the finish too.

Look in my album @ http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w140/carbine05/G70/

There are 2 designs... one for the left panel and one for the right.. simple but thats how i want it to be. Still undecided on the colour... though i'm tempted with anodized violet.

Phil, you got any pics of pretty much all the anodizing colours... i can't seem to imagine what titanium or gunmetal looks like either.. though that would be a possibility to my case.

PS. I'm still a little curious as to whether the cooling would be fine:

Configuration isn't final until the parts come:

PA120.3 - 2xDDC Ultra - CPU - Mosfets - NB - PA120.1 - SB - GPU - HDD - Res - Back to PA120.3

As mentioned earlier, pumps will be 2x DDC Ultra in series... or one of these:

hwluxx_dual_200.jpg

Any opinions on power and will it cope would be gratefull.

I have got a sample of the colours I can anodise - email sales and I'll forward you a copy.

Okie doke, sent an email together with a simple question of whether you do a laser cutting service... as if you did, that would make my life easier otherwise, i'd have to get the case first, cut the designs on the panels.. then send it over to you to get the anodizing done.

No probs, I've replied! I can offer laser cutting, and powder baking, and custom fabrication. :D

I'm not sure i like the sound of the water setup.6 blocks and 2 rads in 1 loop sounds very restrictive to me.I think 2 seperate loops and not bother cooling mosfets or s/b and maybe h/d's would be better for temps. Also res's are a waste of space, can fit a T line virtually anywhere.

I agree that you should perhaps run two loops with your DDCs. However, a res does help with temps. The greater the mass of water the better, as it takes longer for it to warm up. Imagine if you had the Arctic ocean plumbed in to your system - it'd always be cool :D

(it does however, also take longer to cool down to ambient)

Ye i was thinking of running two loops but as i'm going with one GPU for the moment.. i decided to have it all into one big loop.

I'll eventually split it into two loops when my next graphics card arrives.

The lasercutting would be nice. The designs can be found on my album if you click on any of my photo links and click on the G70 sub album. Its just a simple cut, all highlighted in black. The black of course will be clear plexi with privacy film on top as i think that looks much better than using solid/smoked black plexi. Then i will add UV Blue behind it with a few turquoise led's to create the shining effect.

Looking at the samples you send me Phil, i've finally decided on the colour.. no-one has had so its not popular and looks unique. yummy Polished Gunmetal. Expect sub £450 on your way mid March :D

Edit: I'll have a think about the 2 loop jobby.

Here what i have come up with at the moment.
