Bye Bye H100... :(

Had my PC on since around 5pm yesterday (around 26 hours), been using it for most of today playing Battlefield 3, CPU around 50c with the fans and pump on their lowest settings, which was normal, when I heard a bit of a pop noise, followed by a slight smell of burning.

Didn't even wait for the PC to shut down, HWMonitor showed CPU temp about to go through the roof (80c+!) so I pulled the plug on the PC. Just tried booting again, no lights on the pump and BIOS shows CPU temp at 65c and rising; I turn the PC off again and opened it up, pump looked OK, wasn't hot to touch, but looking at the Molex power connector for it, one of the cables has come out.

Bought the H100 sealed, second hand, 3 weeks ago Would Corsair accept an RMA for this or do I have £80-odd worth of junk plastic and metal?

Corsair will only deal with the original owner IIRC.

Is it just the insulation that has burned? - In stranded cable it is very rare for that to happen.

You can just reattach it, can't you? You could also get a new molex connector and attack that to the cables.

My H100 makes that weird pump grinding noise that Corsair insists is very rare. And i can first get it RMA'd on monday, and even then i won't even if and when i get a new one.

To be honest, I'm really not sure what's happened to it! Looking at the molex pin thingy, there's a bit of insulated cable in there, it's as if the cable has sheared off at the end of the pin and the actual wiring has worked its way out, I'm really not sure

Will try and get hold of the original owner

Those 4-pinn molex pinns isnt very good. I can understand that the cable can fall off the pinn. Just get a new pinn and crimp it on. Perhaps the pump will work again after that

yes, they will cover the issue, but you will have to send it in to them for their examination
and determination of issue. you'd be better off to repair and move forward.

for the 1st to X owner... it looks as if it was not properly crimped to the molex pin
or someone had accidently tugged on it.

if u attach the wire back to the connector does the h100 still working? cause that pop noise didn't come from the molex

Wire wouldn't go directly back in to the molex, so a bit of a bodge job later it now looks like this:

Seems to work, no lights on the pump so wondering if they're what went pop? Temps are back to usual at 30c idle, 50c under load.

Tempted just to leave it like that now and replace it with a custom loop early next year

Right, after much Prime95-ing, I'm happy with my bodge job, the case rarely moves around anyway, so should be ok. I've re-done my cable management to try and get it looking a bit better and make sure the H100 cables aren't going to come loose

dunna know, but i include that i purchase the item from eBay, forums and such and get
covered quite well. 2 PSU, 2 H-series, 4 RAM.... worth a try to submit an RMA..

CPU_FAN showing 0rpm in the BIOS (fans are plugged in to the fan controller on my case)

Tried with fans plugged in to the H100, then spin up initially but stop when the system POSTs. As you say, seems the controller has given up on me, which isn't too much of an issue as the pump is still pumping and the fans are spinning on the 600T's fan controller.

Not perfect, but could have been much worse!

the CPU_FAN should be where the single wire from the pump plugs into. this is your pump speed.
pump speed should be reading between 2200-2500rpm.

Yup, it is plugged in to there, but reads 0rpm. If I disable all the fans I can hear the pump grinding away (very quietly), so it's clearly still working, just not providing information to the motherboard!

Temps are all ok, so I'm not too worried, as I say, just annoying really!
