Buying a card - GTX570 or HD6950 (& unlock it) or GTX560 SLI

Well, I touched on this question in another thread and just wanted to get some opinions as I'm looking to buy a new graphics card in the next two days.

Now that you can grab a 6950 for £215 and up it to say stock 6970 performance by unlocking it, it kinda seems like a bit of a good deal?

I was all set on a 570 from either Asus, EVGA or Gigabyte but they are all around £300.. Getting a 6950 and unlocking it to 6970 spec does seem appealing.

Ooooooooor just as an alternative, wait a couple of weeks for the GTX560 and buy a couple of them.

I would wait no matter what you do because non-ref gtx 570s are about to come out also see how well the gtx 560 performs and costs and you will have no warranty if you unlock a 6950 and they might do a great non ref 6950 aswell also if unlock you have no overclock room

I'd not suggest that for 24/7 use tbh. Sure there are ways to get it working and feel nice for a while, but what people are forgetting is that there are physical differences in the cards as well as bios.

To bench, I'd not hesitate in doing it, but to do it and leave it in a rig for good - I'd personally not. If the 6970 was identical hardware-wize (which it isn't), I'd not have an issue.

the 580 is fix for the 480 and the 570 was a fix for the 470 and finally the 460 was a fix for the 465. there proberbly will not be a 560

Yeah, but bougth before VAT increase. Still waiting delivery, dont bother me to wait. Other shops such overclockers is selling for 350.00. Think is a good price on dabs.

good that you beat the VAT

Yeah bought my 570 the day before the VAT increase. Went with the standard version from Dabs with free delivery for £279 plus 7 quid cashback through quidco.
