Building a new C2D comp for a friend, check specs plz!

Hey all, care to do me a favor and double check the specs on this rig before I submit my final bid on it to my buddy. He is going to mainly use it for light video editing, listening to music, surfing, and some very light gaming (CS:S perhaps...).

Anyhow, he wants it to stay under $1000 with a legit copy of Vista Home Premium (OEM) and this is what I have so far.

Note that the case choice was made by him, and although not a big supporter of the company or the quality of the interior, it's pretty sick on the outside, specially since it's going to be used for video editing. A wee bit of Mac envy eh?

Lemme know if you think something should be swapped out, but bear in mind it can not incur a price increase unless it's only $5 or so more.

Thx and I look forward to your suggestions and comments!

Glad u approve mate. I don't think the specs are all that bad for less than $1000... Should do everything and more than what this guy is expecting.

Agreed, I thought that for $109 the 7600GT just couldn't be beat. I remember that's what I first started with on my C2D build when it was in my Centurion case :D Good little cards for sure.

And gratz on 12,000 posts when u reply :worship:

I can't get over what you can get for your money in the US, sub $1000 for that rig is fantastic.

Yeah, that's roughly 500 quid... Someone in the UK do me a favor and spec the same rig as closely as possible and see what the price comes out to be. I'd be interested to see how big of a difference there is. $100? $250? $500 maybe?

Here ya go matey :)

Couldn't find the BIOSTAR so that mobo's a bit dubious

BTW Frag...that sig is HUGE

Ya only got 1 x burner so theres another 20 quid right there... So we're talkin about maybe a $200 difference in price. Really not all that bad.

And yeah, I like mah sigs biiiig :)

Blatent spammage to catch the Fragmeister :p :p

Don`t know if it`s me Frag, but some of those prices seem a bit much. For example the dvdrw. Might just be a bit out of touch.

Yeah but I don't buy junk burners... Those Asus drivers are simply amazing. I've never used a better burner and I've probably used 15 different makes/models. The Asus drives are whipser quiet, fast, have a fast and silent tray open/close mechanism, and never coaster discs. Worth every cent IMO.

You gotta go with what u know at the end of the day I guess.

I got some sony, toshiba and pionerr ones here and they were dirt cheap and work extremely well/fast and never effed a dvd between em. Don`t know any junk ones, samsung gave me an inco-herent dvd rom b4, but tbh it went bad with age.

Lightscribe is nice ;) Nice gimmicky thing.

I don't know about the build-quality of the LightScribe burners, they're probably made by HP (throws up in mouth). I just have the standard 16x silver burners and boy do they rock socks.

I have had a bunch of the Biostar mobos and love them. The only prob is the Biostar 965 has no Raid Controller (the 965 deluxe does). But it is a beautifully designed mobo.

No slots are blocked by big Video Cards for one.

Also love the PS. I bought one for ALL4SPL and its a great unit for the money.

I also vote for the Asus burners, Their Quiet drives are very good..

i use plextor for cd/dvd drives there expensive but sleek and silent and fast, sata too less cable clutter. Just a question do u think he will use 2 drives @ once?

@kemp, yes we get a lil bit better prices on Hardware, but watercooling parts are supreme in europe and are a biznatch to get here in US. =P

I use an LG burner and it would vibrate so much it would rattle my TT armor doors in the front. So as a quick little fix I took the doors off, bought some little rubber washers, put it on the top and bottom posts of the hinges and there we go, no more noise. The burner still is pretty loud when up to full speed.
