Build For a friend

So here’s the build log for my mates pc, now he has already chosen and ordered a case this being a NZXT Guardian 912 RB (image attached).
With him not really knowing what i have chosen i think he will be pleasantly surprised. I have chosen all components to match with the Blue/Black theme so everything is blue or black or both.
The components are the following:
Asus P8Z77-V Pro (Blue/Black)
i7-3770K
Gainward 660Ti Phantom 2GB
Corsair H70 (case doesn’t fit a H100i)
Corsair Dominator 16GB 2*8 1600Mhz (Blue/Black)
Corsair 240GB Force 3 SSD (Blue/Black)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm
BeQuiet Pure Power 730W Modular PSU

The first package turned up today here is the pic of the Corsair bits (Image Attached).
It should be a fun one with the size limitations of the case and not much in terms of cable management, but i do love a challenge.
now to wait for the next delivery of items then i can start to test fit and work out the best cable routes, I know that BeQuiet are best at supplying short cables, sucks for people with full ATX cases.
Anyway till next time.
Best
Jon

What does he use his pc for? That CPU and RAM are pretty much overkill for a gaming rig. Could've gotten a 670 or 7970 for that money :p

Nice colour co-ordination though, looking forward to see the build log

Will he be paying for those parts as well? :p
I don't think he'll be pleasantly surprised then

Thanks for the feedback,
The budget was £1000 ish for a pc that 'will last' his exact words, it will be used for games mainly, and a i7 was a must for him.
hopefully the stuff wont take too long to turn up so i can test fit and bench

I'd say have 8 gigs of RAM and spend more on the GPU, but as you say, the i7 is a must, obviously stick with it.

I would have discussed the issue about the CPU first with your mate...
He's claiming it's for gaming, but he still wants an i7...

I know it's a 50-50 situation with i5 and i7 performancewise in games. But the price difference would convince most people to go for the i5. Especially if they never/rarely work with rendering software.

Oh god that case XD.

I would have definitely have cut down else where to get a better GPU; less memory smaller SSD, i5.

Good colour coordination though..

:^) The sea-turtle window case.. Each to their own.

How about some Bifenix alchemy sleeved cables in blue? Should look good with your theme.

Right so the last of the bits arrived, and i have assembled partly just to install the OS and drivers and to see how quiet it all is, and i must say very impressed!

will be assembling tomorrow when i get home from work, should take a good few hours to get the cabling right but we will see.

yea thanks i did think about sleeved cables but tbh if i was i would have gone with a fully modular PSU and would have sleved them myself, but i will defo sleeve my own next build, red/black/grey i think i will go for.

and yes the case isnt to my taste but unfortunatly i had no input on that choice :(

so i completely forgot to take many pictures of the build and the quality is awful due to the fact that i had to use my phone. i forgot my SLR :(, So i did my best with the cable tidying and routed as many as i could behind the M/B tray and had to squease the side panel on after the cables were there. The case didnt look anyware near as bad as the picture as the side window is slightly tinted so not all of the bright blue from the LEDs came through which i thought was good.
Made the H70 as a Push Pull with the NZXT stock fans, and its quite quiet with the fans at normal and loud with the fans at full speed.
The colours go well and myself and my mate are very pleased with the end result.
My next project is my Home made Grilling machine (Brick built BBQ) it needs to be done by july and i will be posting some pictures, possibly in the project logs threads (After all it is a project) :) or the Off topic threads

Nice job dude, but the cable for CPU power is really irritating me. I guess the cable was too short to route around the back?
answer to both questions
1: there was no hole at the top of the M/B tray.
2: It was miles too short and even if it was there was problem 1,

it bugged me too but this was the best way i could come up with where it wasnt going straight across the M/B

Just unplug it XD. (I kid, I kid)

Run that cable up behind the gpu and into the board. Instead of around, to the front then back in again.
Grab those sleeved extensions which would fix up alot of your length issues.
