Budget gaming monitors worth the money?

Currently have a 2 monitor setup that i would like to mount on a monitor arm to get a little more space on my desk, one is a Benq XL2410T and the other is a Samsung XL2370, unfortunately the XL2370 doesnt have any VESA mounting holes, so im thinking about giving that to my dad and getting something else.

Im on a somewhat tight budget and have been looking at "budget" monitors such as Viewsonic XG2401, AOC G2460PF, Asus VG248QE and Benq XL2411. All offer 144Hz which i do like since i do a fair bit of gaming and at a decent price.

Im just wondering if those are worth it or if i should widen my budget a bit more and find something a bit more midrange.

Kinda lost since there are so many damn monitors to choose from, all i know is that the monitor im looking for needs VESA mounting holes and needs to not be in a glossy finish, for some reason a lot of the budget oriented monitors come in a glossy finish, not sure if its cheaper, but i absolutely hate it :)

Anyone that might be able to point me in the right direction?

Mine general advice is not to cheepout on monitor, and PSU. Monitor will last you trough multiple rigs, and it is your primary interaction with everything. So go as best as you can. It is an expensive component. Go with less RAM, smaller HDD and put money on monitor. You can easily add more of that latter.

I agree, don't cheap out. For an extra £50 you can alleviate the majority of downfalls that come with cheap monitors. I have 2 different 144hz TN monitors and the difference is night and day in the colours and contrast department.

Can i ask which ones? I dont mind paying a little bit more if know its gonna up the quality, i just dont really feel like paying for the top end models which run in the 700-800$ range.

And don't either, they're not worth it at all in my opinion. I have an ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q and it cost me around $700. It has worked rather good I might add and with both 144Hz and G-Sync, it's been an experiencing like no other in games such as Battlefield. And I feel like I can't go back from this.

Although is this monitor worth the price? Absolutely not. Atleast not until ASUS quality control actuallt get their heads out of their arses and actually check them.
Since I had issues since day 16. 2 days after the legally 14 days return policy, a dead pixel, in the middle of the monitor showed up. Luckily it came back and no dead pixels now.

Although now it flickers from time to time and the earlier Nvidia driver which stated would "fix" this, didn't for me. And now my monitor has, what I believe is a faulty power supply. Since I can't power the monitor on or off, I need to unplug and replug the power cord to the wall to power it on.

I also know that Dicey on the forum had major issues with his monitor as well and got a total of 7 or 8 different (replacement) monitors.

So no, these "higher end" monitors are not worth the insany amount of money they are asking. Atleast not untill they're quality controll gets sorted.

Yeah thanks, seems like Asus have some serious quality control issues and charging a premium for their monitors ontop of that.

Right now im looking at 2, maybe 3 different monitors:

Dell S2716DG
Viewsonic XG2401
Acer XB241YU

Viewsonic is the cheaper of the bunch, the Dell is the middle of the pack and the Acer is the most expensive. Im leaning more towards the Dell right now, 1440p, 165Hz and Gsync at a much cheaper price than for example the Asus monitors.

The Dell is only 144Hz and it has some massive BLB dude. I tried 2 and they both suffered as much as both the dual Acer X34's I tried and the ASUS PG348Q.

It felt rather cheap as well, in the materials used and especially the base.

I just picked up the new copy of custompc magazine issue 167 and the Viewsonic XG2401 has a great review and was the winner of the budget monitor group test. I can upload the review if you want?

Sure we are talking about the same monitor? I have only read good things about the Dell S2716DG, its overclockable in the OSD to 165Hz. Im also guessing that BLB can happen on any monitor and atleast Dell have a good return/exchange policy.

That would be pretty cool sure, have read some reviews and watched some users reviews, everyone does seem to agree that its the best of the budget monitors.

You sure we are talking about the same monitor? The one im talking about can atleast be overclocked in the menu to 165Hz and from all the user reviews i have read i havent heard anything about bad BLB, but i mean BLB can happen on all monitors, from the cheapest to the most expensive. Had to exchange my current XL2410T 2 times before i got one without BLB, atleast back then Benq had very good customer service, not sure how it is now :)

I looked up and found the issue online as a pdf, they also pretty much sum up what i have been reading, that its the best of the cheaper 1080p 144Hz monitors.

If it's the Dell S2716DG, which is this one, then yes we're talking about the same monitor dude :)

But true that and maybe it's just me though, as for £500+, the quality better be good and the monitor almost flawless. Although, for my experience, my cheap £120 24" BenQ monitors are better quality than both the Dell and my ASUS Swift PG278Q monitors lol

Yeah the 24" model is overclockable apprently, the 27" is not. I have heard nothing but good things about it, havent really heard anyone say the build quality feels cheap. Sucks that there are no stores around here to see them first hand, pretty much just gotta pick one and hope its the right one :)

Right now im leaning towards the Viewsonic XG2401 after reading quite a bit of reviews and alot of user feedback, i got a feeling sticking to 1080p might be better.
