Budget folding rig

I already have a coolermaster gladiator 600 case that I am planning on heavily modding soon.... but I'll be opening a separate project log for that in the not too distant future.

I would really like to get folding as soon as possible and I really need a dedicated rig to do that properly.

As I am on a very limited budget I am going for a cheaper AMD based rig with Nvidia GTS450 GPU's.

I know some people are going to tell me to save up and get an i7 rig, but my total expenditure for this project is going to be pretty limited and after some research I have worked out that going down the AMD route will give me the best PPD for my money.

Here's what I've specced up so far:

https://www.aria.co.uk/WishList/-4cRV2Msdap7naV4pqM4LA

I can then add more 450's later on.

In the future I may get a new case...... probably the HAF 932 (as I can get one on the cheap) and watercool everything so I can give it all an OC.

When I get a 1090T for my main rig my current 955 will probably replace the 555.

Are there any small changes people would suggest?

Also what kind of PPD could I expect from a Phenom II x2 555 and 3 GTS450's?

Not 100% but firstly I thought like 99% of AMD motherboards don't support SLI and also I don't think the GTS450s support 3 way SLI.

So my suggestion is just double check the compatibility of multiple cards.

you would get a lot more ppd with a gtx 460 and considering theres one there for only £16 more you may as well get that there grate cards give out good ppd and i cant help on the amd part as ive never owned a amd chip in my life XD

Irrelevant if used only as a folding rig.

Stamford site have a database of CPU ppd I think?

Deffo try use the 460's as the shaders can go higher I'm told.

shaders on a 460 are silly you can do over 1800 easy but saying that not sure if the 450 is linked with shader and core?

the 460's are monsters and the 768mbs can OC higher than the 1gbs

Running cards in sli wont work for folding, needs to be disabled for a client on each card to work properly (if not at all unless somethings been changed recently)

-----------

The extra £16 for 460's is to good to pass on imo, theres a good chunk of extra ppd to be made there.

CCL have a 3.0 Athlon x4 for under a tenner more :LINK:

also would the 650w be enough? not sure on the power draw tbh but better safe than sorry i guess.

Doesn't matter anymore (new clients) SLI can now be enabled also with the tracker is laughing easy !

So as you said something changed

Depends on what brand the PSU is and what it all needs to power up??

The AX750 is a little under £20 more on aria and thinking about it the tx650 only has 2x 6+2 pin connectors wereas the 750 has 4x 6+2's so if you wanted to fill the 3 pci-e slots on that motherboard the 750 would be needed anyway.
