Hey

Ie7 does not like this pentium 2 machine I have to fix

Youtube takes up 100% cpu and other content such as flash games arent too smooth

Recommendation?

thanks

That maybe down to the content, but give FireFox a shot, maybe even older versions or ones with minimal stuff.

Tbh, I'd download a few browsers, Opera, Safari even and see which works best. U can always uninstall em. U may even find an old mozilla compile. Just be sure no toolbars get installed like google etc.

What is the ram capacity of this pii mobo ?

its SDram

I stuck in whatever i had (64mb + 128mb), tinyxp, minimal stuff kinda thing

Id have thought opera would be the leanest

chrome seems to work better

youtube is still...not even worth trying, seems they wont be using this then!

any other quick tips for juicing this old machine? iv turned off prefetching, set a fix page file at 2x physical ram, classic theme/performance

Safari is probably your best shot. Opera tries to be an all in one solution which isn't really a good thing any way you put it.

EDIT: can you install Opera mobile on it? It runs youtube on phones, should run it on the pII too.

What's the max capacity of the mobo ? (and is it urs)

No idea, its an old one, matx too

at least 512 tho

would safari be faster than chrome tho?

and opera mobile sounds a good try, will all the plugins work etc.?

I have no idea if safari would be faster than chrome.. I don't really notice on my dual/quad cores :p

No idea about opera mobile either, haven't ever tried it. I guess it will though, it works for phones too, right?

someone reckonmended FF3, not till its out of beta. As there is a problem with releasing memory after its been used.
