Bodybuilding/Powerlifting

You do know this thread is called bodybuilding/powerlifting right ?
Yes, I do. The question remains why 40kg flyes? A) Doubtful they are done with anything that resembles good form B) I have seen some pretty massive guys, talking 300lbs with abs and they don't even do their flyes with 40kg's. Recipe for tearing something in the near future.

I'm sorry but that's complete and utter bull, Any real lifter or trainer will tell you the same.
I've been working in the fitness industry for a few years now and seeing people do 40KG flys is quite normal and with good form.

And just because you haven't see these 300 pounders do heavy flys doesn't mean they don't, I would be very surprised if they didn't after all if one has been training a number of years 40KG flys would be a staple.

Maybe we are having different meanings for "flyes" across the pond. Flyes by definition in North America is a chest exercise, the dumbell version of using a pec dec machine. So maybe our definitions is whats confusing me here. Define 'flyes' in your world. I have also been in the fitness industry/bodybuilding world for over 20 years now, but we may be suffering from a regional definition here.

Same definition, Pec deck but on your back using free weights.

Maybe people where I am are just bigger and stronger than were you are as everyone I know over 200 pounds does flys with 40KG and perfect form.

But then again I train with a lot of people who are involved in power building, Mix of body building and power lifting.

Been doing it for over 20 years as I said, train with a lot of guys over the years who are national level competitors and are massive, most of them using crank as well. Not one of them using 40kg dumbells in each hand doing flyes.

Not been to many strength meets or seen strong men by the sound of it then ;)

you know, I was enjoying this thread, up until now. I know international competitors who have won at worlds in powerlifting, national level pro bodybuilders as well. Flyes, being the type of exercise that it is, more for stretching and has nothing to do with power or building strength. I am just curious, what are you using for your presses then? I have done flat and incline presses with dumbells at 140lbs or roughly 65kg, the most I have used for flyes with any amount of control was 60lbs each or just slightly under 30kg. I am guessing you would be doing presses with somewhere in the neighborhood of 150kgs in each hand then.

And that's the point I stopped reading, You are not in the fitness industry, You are one of those guys who are called YOLO or HOLOs *He only lifted once* and now he thinks he knows it all and pretends to be in the fitness industry on the internet and random forums.

And I'm guessing you can't read correctly either as I never said I did 40KG flys, I said I train with people who do.

If you are a real trainer and in the industry then your "20 years" needs to be reviewed, Good day.

No real or experienced trainer would say what you just said, Good day.
Yep, and you are what we call wanna be bodybuilder, braggart who in "2 years" thinks he knows everything. It looks as we are going to disagree on everything in fitness now just on principal. Not that it matters but I have competed at a provincial level in bodybuilding, at 3 different events placing with a 2nd, 3rd and 6th out of 16 in a masters event. And you never answered my question about your flat presses? Go ask Dorian Yates how much he used to do flyes with.

I never said I've been bodybuilding for 2 years you just made that up for some odd reason, I actually started in feb 2009 but I only started doing PT work 2 years ago.

And I also never bragged about anything again you made that up for some very weird reason.

I do my dumb bell presses with 55KG but my PR is 60KG but only 3x3.

Anyway lets just get on with the thread otherwise this could get ugly and I'd rather it stayed somewhat civil even if we do disagree on certain aspects of training.

WTF is up with the antagonism? Even if my form was abysmally crap (which it's not btw), what consequence is it to you anyway? ^_^

I happen to quite like flys; super-sets of flys and presses with dumbells have given me nice quite gains over the last year or so in the chest.

Bench day.

Bar x 2 x 10
40 x 1 x 10
60 x 1 x 5
80 x 1 x 3
90 x 1 x 1
100 x 1 x 1
105 x 2 x 5 I just felt burned out.
105 x 2 x 5 Put on the slingshot so I could finish out the working weight sets
125 x 1 x 5 quite easy with the sling shot.
125 x 2 x 5 put the bench shirt on and went to a thin three board.

Overall, benching to a board seems a little weird but I'll keep up with it and see where I go. As I start to fill the shirt out a little more I'll get more and more out of it. Six weeks out.

Fly's for me too are for heavy lifting, opening wide and squeezing at the top, all to gain a tighter middle line between the two pecs. I'm up to 19kg per arm on those, nowhere near your 40 but still heavy to me (6 reps).

Today is chest day for me as well as many others ^_^

Starting off with 20KG flys and working my way up to my last set of 40KG, With good form I might add ;) and then on with the rest of chest day :)

It's not a race. ^_^ Where can you sell opened supplements? I want to sell the pre-workout, it makes me feel sick so it was a waste of £35.

i've just put the supps I don't like in the bin OR found a way to mix them with something else so I can stomach them ^_^

Actually could use it when I buy a blender, taste isn't too bad but it makes my stomach feel physically sick for some reason.

Pretty much what I do but I've learned through A LOT of trial and error just to stick to a few PW's that I know work for me and not to experiment ^_^
