In case you're wondering, it seemed an appropriate name for this rig, as it looks a bit like Popeye's mate John Belushi:

Crosshair V formula-z;
FX9590;
2 x 7970 Matrix Platinum;
4 x 8GB 2400 Mhz Gskill TridentX;
2 x 1 TB WD Red;
2 x 128GB 840 Pro;
2 x 250GB 840 Evo;
AX860i PSU;
The three 140mm fans that came with my Air 540.

Now, it's all built, but with only one of the Matrices. The plan, is to add the second when I water-cool it, when I'll also be adding a D5 pump. I'm also in the process of RMAing the RAM, as one of the DIMMs is dead.

I think I may have been too stingy on the PSU - have you seen how much those Corsair PSUs cost? - and could do with some considered opinions.

Thank you Gentlemen - and Ladies - in anticipation of some helpful information.

That PSu is a good 'un. Nice to see a 9590 for once :P. I think its the only one on the forums. I'd be tempted to go with a 9370 or an 8350 though as they can usually do what a 9590 does for less money.

nah i dont think its the only one on the forum mate

PSU is fine - it wont run passive though so the fan will be spinning. Its a good quality unit though and youll have plenty of watts. I think your rig will probably pull about 700/750 from the wall.

FX-9590 don't see these mentioned often around here... the FX-8350 would be my personal weapon of choice, but if I had the money to buy the 9590 I simply wouldn't I'd head down the 4770k route.

But you get bonus Kudos for the Air 540 Carbide that case is just pure pornography. :cool:

It's kind of you to say so. I wanted an 8350 with a guaranteed, substantial overclock and was prepared to pay for it.

As for the PSU, there's no doubt as to it's quality, it's simply a question of:
I went with Henry Cooper, would I have been better off with Muhammad Ali?

Also, if this was going to be the last FX cpu, I wanted to grab it before I go Intel.

"Usually" is all well and good, but an extra hundred quid made it "always" - at least, until it goes tits-up.

There's probably no better case for hiding a rats' nest - a substantial one, with all those drives - and - looking at it now, I think it wants a fight.

I take your point about the 4770k, but I wanted what may be the last FX cpu - and there's a Rampage Black, a 4930k and two or three 780TIs in the pipeline.

Please don't hate me for being retired and not starving.

I was running a P4 with a 6800 Ultra until a year or so ago, time for some hot fun!

I built a ZX-80, you know.

In addition, I got all my hair blown off during the war,

so now I have to wear a wooden syrup

and comb it with a chisel.

At least I'm venerable though.:cool:

Perfect!

Exactly what I wanted to know.

A well-informed and highly respected opinion goes a long way to reassuring me.

We, probably, can get by without the fire-brigade getting involved.

Thanx, Boss-man.
