Bluray on PC, how?

Hi guys!

I've been wanting to view bluray discs on my pcs for quite a while now - held out due to cost of drives which are more affordable now

I have a graphics card (ati 2900xt) which has hdcp and I have Vista too.. the only missing recipe is the hdcp compliant screen. Are there any software solutions that will enable me to watch bluray content on my PC that doesnt need a hdcp screen? Would I lose quality if I opt for this solution? I.e. stereo sound instead of 5.1, picture quality etc.

(I don't really want to upgrade my screen although thats an option).

anyhelp would appreciated

anydvd HD does this :)

you will need a 'copy' *cough* of cyberlink powerdvd for surround sound i believe, you've gotta get Ultra for hd things, any of the 'included' copies with drives are pants and only do stereo which is pretty slack considering the outlay price of the drives

Correct me if I am wrong but haven't PC monitors been HD for an age? Meaning if you play a BD on your PC it is full HD?

if your monitor is 1280x1024 it'l fit 720p (1280x720)

if its 1920x1200 it'l fit 1080p/i (1920x1080)

so kinda yeah, they've been 720p for ages and more recently 1080p but the issue is with bluray/hd-dvd content if you're doing it over digital you MUST have HDCP enabled monitor to watch it (unless you use anydvd hd of course)

1080i and 1080p are the same size? just one is interlaced the other progressive?

you may need to turn off any scaling as on a 1920x1200 monitor it stretches the 1080 to 1200 which can look REALLY crap lol

I also recently purchased a Blu-Ray drive for my PC, at current i am unable to tell what it is playing back in as for some reason the disc information just displays 'Video mode: Progressive'.

I am also playing it all on a 22" monitor which does not have HDCP at a resolution of 1680x1050, and even with this the quality still looks outstanding compared to going back and watching my regular DVD's.

another quick question, if i am after ripping the Blu-Ray discs onto my HDD do i need a BD Re-Writer or does it just need to read the disc meaning i can just use my BD Player, and is the anydvd HD software the best thing to use to put it onto my HDD?
