Hi im thinking of getting a blu ray drive for my pc (along with new gfx card) and ive heard somewhere that if u don't have 1900x 1020 res or sometihng you cant get full hd. Im using Samsung Syncmaster 226BW and its such a nice monitor i dont want to have to get a newer one.

Oh so basically, will blu ray movies have to scale down to a 1680x1050 native res, using dvi? Will i notice much difference? Will blu ray movies still look awesome?

cheers :wavey:

hey man,the nativie full HD res is 1920*1080 so any monitor with that res with fully support it aslong as it has a DVI or HDMI connector,so your monitor wont fully support it res wise as its lower than full HD and it will scale down regardles of using HDMI or DVI as the two connectors are the same image wise just HDMI carries sound aswell, you will notice some picture quality I.E it wont be as good as full HD probly not worth it IMO just save the cash for a new monitor.

damn. Cause like ive watched (1080p) videos on youtube and they look tons better, but dunno

Might put all my money towards card then

some of the youtube vids are still 720p or you have to select 1080p from the menu, plus if they are 1080p you have ti take into account that its being streamed so abit of quality will be lost, aspect ratio's that kinda thing, you no when you see FULL HD mate its awsome.

yer put all ur cash towards a card mate bluray still kinda pointless after all films are being shot in HD and DVD,what card you getting mate

ok might wait out for hd dvds etc

Im thinkin either a ati hd radeon 4890 or a gtx 260 at minimum, but maybe better now no blu ray

its just classed as full HD regardles of disc it is what it is,good good decent card IMO,crysis rocksi play high settings 1920*1080 quite fine

good look with call of duty

yeh i know and da prices aren't too bad either :P

So with a xfx hd radeon 4890, a samsung 22 inch syncmaster 226bw and a decent blu ray drive i should see some improvement lol?

cause like the suppose "1080p" vids on youtube already look freakin awesome lol

226BW can't do 1080p, well not full 1080p, it'll do a scaled 720p. I've got a 226cw :)

some 22" monitors that are 16:9 (226b/cw are 16:10) can do 1080p though.

I hope you don't mean MW2,as it is fps locked at 85(although mine gets 91)

If its for blu-ray movies in HD, any modern card will do in fairness, no need for a top of the range card.

well... would 720 still look nice? Or wud it stretch

For movies? Yes, still looks great IMO. You will have a black border on your monitor (as there are pixels not being used, 720p is 1280x720 resolution).

It looks almost as good IMO, its 16:9 just like 1080p, and really, on your screen will still look great.

Unless you're sitting right up at the screen, or have a huge screen, most people will not notice the difference.
