Bit of a dilema...

Morning all,

I have a bit of a dilemma that id like to hear your suggestions on what would be best.

At the moment I have a 2 sticks of patriot sector 5 (1600mhz) and id like to get another 4GB but they verticle heat dissipators wont fit under my current CPU cooler - a Titan Fenrir Evo.

I've looked into taller CPU coolers but as i've recently installed a 200mm side intake fan on my Phantom, anything taller than the Fenrir would obstruct the fan blades (its about 1mm from clashing already).

The dilema is - shall I sell off my current ram and buy 8GB kit without verticle coolers on the RAM, keep the ram i have and change the cooler and remove the side fan or change both the RAM and the Cooler for better performing alternatives?

I want the Noctua and have done for quite a long time but as I said on MSN, it would obstruct the side intake by quite alot and it i can i'd like to keep it in as it keeps my graphics card nice and cool.

I might have to do a bit of digging around to find a 200mm fan thats not as chunky as the NZXT and i might get away with it.

The Mushkin ridgeback looks 'the dogs' mate but the price of it to get an 8GB kit is steep indeed! I might have to settle with the Blackline stuff if i went down that route

With the noctua you dont need the side panel fan dude

just move it up to the spare hole in the roof

IMO with a CPU like that Ridgeback would be overkill. You'd be fine with the stuff used in the budget system review (Silverline was it?). I mean, it's still 1600mhz, looks lovely and fits easily under a Noctua.

But yeah, deffo agree on the NH side of things. Once you go cream and brown you never go back.

im changing Mobo and CPU after the new year as my current CPU is basically an unlocked tri-core and my motherboard is a great overclocker but doesnt support crossfire that well (16x & 4x) so im looking to change that too.

my current CPU only supports 1333Mhz but as im upgrading id like the headroom for faster speed when i can run it and whilst its underclocked (to 1254Mhz) im able to tighten the timings a bit (currently 7-7-7-24)
