Biostar TPower I45 Motherboard

Hiya folks,

I'm looking for a mobo to replace my Maximus Formula for say 6 - 10 months just to ramp the **** out of my E8600. Basically it needs to overclock well and essentially have a nice high FSB.

I'm looking at the Biostar TPower I45 Here mainly because it ticks these boxes and it's cheap even though it looks a bit crap.

If I can bring myself to do it I might even buy this one but probably not as they suck!

Has anyone got any experience of this motherboard at all is what I want to know??

2nd link fixed.

Wanna swap out the Maximus as it doesn't seem to have a very high max fsb.

Also wouldn't mind having a play with another board before I decide to go i7 sometime... Maybe when 32nm comes out early next year.

I'm surprised that the X48 couldn't push your E8600 further north of 450FSB.

I owned the Biostar TPower I45 for about a month before I swapped over to Phenom II (which in turn was replaced with the spec in sig) and was very impressed. It was occasionally tempermental when overclocking but it hit 500FSB with relative ease with my old 65nm E6300. This board supposedly does very well with 45nm CPU's.

Maximus Formula is X38 my friend... X48 for the Rampage.

I gets up to like 495 and then has a little hole at about 500 until 515 but after that it gets a lil unstable and is difficult to get a decent setting with the straps.

Good to hear the Tpower is alright... I mean it seems most P45s with get near or over 500 fsb but the Tpower (lucky board permitting) can get over 600 and obviously more with extreme cooling.

I'm very surprised myself, if you can't get the performance out of the ASUS board, why would you want to waste money on a Biostar baord?

To get the performance?

I'll be able to sell the Maximus and not end up spending much.

I just want another bit of hardware to play with that'll get me some nice high overclocks on the E8600 but with maybe a lower multi and higher fsb.

It's worth mentioning that if you're looking into pushing the motherboard past 500FSB, make sure that your RAM is happy to run at least 1:1 with such FSB's. You can expect at least 500FSB with any respectable P45 board, that includes the Asus P5Q-E or Pro, Gigabyte EP45 UD3 series etc.

Yeah the RAM will go up to 570 ish for a 1:1 so any FSB up to that would be welcome.

Took a look at the P5K Pro but it's meant to get pretty toasty as its cooling isn't the best. Also it doesn't go much over 500. Ebuyer had it at £99 yesterday though which was tempting.

fixed link

there is no link 2,I worded it wrong, those are what number in the world they are

EDIT:just noticed the names on the validations,I thought that Youngpro had the top spot.

I know and that's the only reason I'm looking at it to be honest. Looking for a good clocker. Not fussed about bells and whistles, just want to crank this chip up high.

That said I'd be tempted to replace the stock cooling with something a little better.
