Bios Ram Checksum Error, Intermittent problems booting up

Having major problems with my system. Keep getting memory check errors, sometimes get it to boot up and then around 15 mins in the system will just re-boot again. So unstable.

The mother board I have is the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, I have flashed the Bios to the latest version. I have also swopped the Crucial Ballistix memory around (I have 4 1GB sticks) so dont think its the ram?

Most times it will not re-boot, meaning that I press the re-boot button and it starts but them hangs not even getting to the boot screen, the monitors do not even come on. If I turn all power off then try sometimes i get into windows but not offend.

My graphics card is the ATI Radeon X850 but I have managed to install the drivers for this so seems to be ok?

Could this be the mother board, have read alot about trouble with the bios chip? I have tried upping the voltage to the ram to 2.70 as recommended on a bios setup but still no luck.

If anyone can help please please AHHHHHHHHHHH

I may be wrong, but I didn't think windows liked 4gb of memory, and some AMD processors don't like 4 sticks? Have you tried running with just 2 of them in?

Its een well documented that 2 x 1gb Balistix has problems with the sticks dying. If your running 4 x stciks you need to set the RAM to 2T (CPC disabled). Set the voltage to 2.8v as well - Crucial say that this is the advised voltage.

Run Memtest86+ thought once then run tests 5 and 8 for at least four loops each. If you get any red errors then you know there's a problem. Try tweaking the timings to see how it goes.

I hope that ya sort it :)

Hi Guys

Thanks for the help thus far. Ive tried all 4 sticks in one slot and now Im not even getting to the bios screen. Things power up but thats about it. Cant work out if its potentially a buggered mobo and i dont have any other memory to test. Any more ideas?

Just thought that it might help if i post me settings

Ok will set ram voltage to 2.80

the bios for timing is set at -

timing mode (manual)

memclock index value (mhz) (400mhz)

cas# latency (tcl) (3)

Min RAS# active time (tras) (8T)

RAS# to CAS# delay (trcd) (3T)

Row precharge time (trp) (3T)

Row cycle time (Trc) (11T)

Row refresh cyc time (Trfc) (14T)

Read-to-write time (Trwt) (5T)

Write recovery time (twr) (3T)

1T/2T memory time (twr) (2T)

S/W DRAM over 4G remapping (enabled)

H/w DRAM over 4G remapping (enabled)

This are my settings at the mo. Thanks so much for the help.

Just looking for that CTC setting which is eluding me lol

It's an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe kemp. Hey shiftlocked, what BIOS version are you running in your board, and have you just recently updated it? Oh are you running XP 64 bit or 32?

Good news. Ive managed to get some memory, swap it out and its working all fine and dandy. Thanks for all the help guys :D

At the moment Ive got in there 256 of ram that was made before i was born but crucial will have a swap out done in 3 days so heres hoping

Well actually... some people have managed to order direct from Crucial by just calling them up about it ;) And they have been running strong.
