Hello, my friend told me he is wants to get this laptop, http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/lapto...2244sa-15-6-laptop-ruby-red-17419992-pdt.html

I told him that buying from pc world is a poor decision as all they want is your money and from my and others experiences has very poor customer service plus it is not a suitable laptop for gaming. So if anyone can suggest better laptops for a similar if not lower price to show him his options that would be lovely. I personally suggested that he goes the APU route as he would get more out of his money. Thanks

whats his budget and is it just gaming he wants, and also screen size and HDD.

Not much you're going to get with that budget. Im in the US and 300pounds = about $456 dollars which here can get you 1366x768 and HD graphics. Or a midrange(on a good deal) APU.

Yeah 300 pounds is not going to get you anything that should be classed as gaming unfortunately. id say wait for sales to float around but even then i think £600 sound be more his target can he stretch his budget at all?

No, up to £350 would be absolute max, its not going to be extreme top end graphics just anything that is better than that one.

The laptop would be terrible with it's integrated graphics (HD7340) for gaming.

Anything below £500 and you will struggle.

I'd recommend looking around on Gumtree/Ebay for any chance of getting a gaming laptop at that budget.

I bought an ASUS X43S for roughly 350 quid and it works VERY well for me, it gets hot as hell in summer, but it can sure as hell run minecraft or battlefield 3. Mind you it doesn't run Battlefield 3 on anything higher than low and at 1366*768 resolution, but it does run at somewhat playable 30fps+ in singleplayer.

Edit: Viewing angles are horrible and the battery doesn't last very long (unsurprisingly) it has a dedicated GPU (Geforce GTX 540M iirc)

He will only buy new unfortunately, i found these two,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-355...59?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1374172530&sr=1-59

and

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-Sat...26?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1374172473&sr=1-26

He is currently using a compaq tower pc and it doesnt even have pci express and it is using a dual core athlon cpu, he told me it wasnt good enough for gaming and that he wanted a laptop instead, it is about 4 years old so anything will be an improvement for him.

does he need a laptop or could parts be found that he could use to make his pc better

Since he's dead set on a laptop i suggest he saves up more towards the 600pound area. 600pounds seems to offer good value/performance from other threads i have seen.

In all honestly he's better off not buying anything if he's being super anal about 300pound budget. He won't get that much of a performance boost over his current rig to justify a new laptop.
