Best way to improve my setup?

EDIT: If you buy a 560ti you will need a better PSU that has dual 6 or dual 6 + 2 PCIE connectors. Most of the better quality PSU's will have them.

ok so my PSU has one of the 6 pin ones. thats it. So i'll need a better PSU? ok great thanks for suggesting some good ones for me.

does it have to be a 775 socket psu again? or is there anything i need to be aware of?

just build a new system ... tbh fighting a lost cause. id get a e8400 and then a new gpu and then e better cooler and a psu ... with all that you might aswell go i7 or i5 or even i3 with a slightly cheaper gpu and then get ddr3 ram aswell ...

thats what i would do my e8600 / 4870x2 if i wanted to ipgrad to say a q9650 etc and a better gpu i might aswell keep my gpu and just egt a new mobo / cpu config. silly to spend money on a old system theses days. sell your bits and buy a new rig pal

I'll go and look for a good price for the GPU today. Had a look on cougar-extreme about just making a new PC altogether and maybe selling my old parts to help pay for it.

are there any sites you guys would recommend for a new computer for cheap? I already have a terabyte HDD with win7 so i would be happy getting standard HDD with no OS and selling it on auction sites. Would this be a better way to go about it? Im not exactly a very demanding gamer who has to have the best stuff i just want it to do the job to a decent level. Some short maths has kinda made me think it may come to the same price to just get a new system and sell the old parts though. any thoughts?

I can see this getting expensive!

For 300GBP, I'd still suggest to go for a mild video card like the 6790/6850 and a good PSU. These will definitely be able to play titles like SC2 and DOWR with no problems.

Thanks again CocaCola, didnt realise the PSU was such a big deal

If im thinking that Im about wanting about 3 years out of this do you think i'd be ok just upgrading like this?

Thank you kindly for everyones help and advice

i'd keep your HDD and os. TBH then look on even ebay for a cheap bundle . check AV FORUMS put a wanted add in the section here.

i mean if you sell your pu / mob / ram for £80-100 that gives you £400

and i see ALOT of i7 systems old 1336 sell for that with a old gtx460 or simular on av forums etc so i would personaly go second hand myself OR go arai and get the o/c bundle for £250 or w/e it is now then keep your gpu save up alittle and get a 5870 even or a gxt460 is ampl for you and now £60-70 s/h and get a decent corrsair psu for £50 -80

thats my opinion anyway

i'd do this myself :

http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Bundl...@+4.40GHz+Overclocked+Bundle+?productId=46135

£250 new bulldozer cpu @4.4 and ram / mobo 4 core

or

http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Bundl...0+4.40GHz+Overclocked+Bundle+?productId=43812

i3 @ 4.4 id go for bulldozzer

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...ed+Volta+ATX2.3+Power+Supply+?productId=43769

mushkin psu @30 bud maby abit more for a o/c system say :

then you need a gpu so there is your £300

sell your bits and buy a second hand gpu of ebay or hre gxt460 ? ati 5870 ? 5950 poss a 5970 ?? or a new gen card lower spec . see what i mean about the money get a tidy cpu and a medioca gpu = win over ur dated cpu and top spec gpu

correc me if wrong 3x laptop gpu's ona pcb ?

So again guys thanks for all your help.

Have had a little look considering your advice on Motherboards RAM GFX and the need for a better PSU

Now All my learning is based on reading your responses and alot of the numbers in here are TOTALLY foreign to me except the RAM and Processor power etc, the motherboard i have no clue on, i just went for a lucky dip so please do feel free to criticise and suggest improvements bearing in mind a tight budget! Learning from you so far i think the PSU the GFX and the Processor should all receive a mark of approval from listening to your suggestions.

If any of you can find a better VFM site or build on this site I would be grateful.

I figure if i can sell my parts + the 500gb HDD that comes with this, Use my current Semi decent spec cooling unit that is on my current system. This is likely to fall within my £300 budget. The case im not fussed about as i could happily keep my old case which has 3 large very quiet fans. It really is just the bare bones im bothered about. Nothing fancy although Azurites system blew me away!

I used Cougar extreme to build this, if any of you fancy looking on there any maybe suggesting a better build for a similar price I would be happy to listen. considering my history with ATI Radeon GFX cards being quite loud and my need to be quite quiet i tend to shy away from them and am semi sold on the idea of the 560 Ti as Azurite so kindly suggested.

Now to me that seems like good VFM but maybe I am being ripped off on that site. All your knowledge and wisdom is as always very welcome.

Thanks again guys

like i said i just went lucky dip on the motherboard as i know NOTHING (like cavernous vacuum of knowledge in this area) about motherboards. If you look on the site i think theres a choice of several or if u can point me at a decent one i would be grateful.

On the two PSU's front i think it states the 500w psu comes as standard or u can replace with a more powerful one at a small cost and they may have forgotten to remove the 500w psu from the quote but well spotted. I had been advised here towards a 650w psu so i decided to take the advice. Like i said i am just guessing wildly here! (if i can edit the two PSU's out of the first message then i will)

Thanks again.
