Best Soundcard for around 100 quid?

I am using the normal ones that you download from asus's site. I know i should try those ones but yeah

In any case what do you think Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD?

Thanks for answering btw.

You need the STX really, or a big DAC/AMP.

Also, why are you getting the 250ohm versions? The 80Ohm versions are better and easier to drive - which will probably be a big factor in your soundcard choice.

Btw - I have the STX and DT770s 80Ohm ;) They're an amazing combo

Yeahh really thinking of the STX now, also the 250ohm because they are available now on amazon, whereas the 80ohm ones are out of stock!

And since i saw the STX can power headphones up to 600ohm (lol) i dont think driving the 250's would be an issue :P

I'm not too sure it's a good idea, running 250Ohm cans straight off a soundcard...
And since the STX is £40 out of budget, I'm not really sure what to suggest x.x

Dont see a reason why not lol, has an extra connector for power from the psu so it would be fine,

Yeah its out of budget but then again i thought, why not get an awesome soundcard and not upgrade for a long time

I'd wait for the 80ohms to come back in stock. It's nearly christmas, and they're popular headphones. I can't imagine for a second Amazon wouldn't restock them within the next few days.

As for the soundcard, it says it does, and there is a setting for it, but I really wouldn't trust it running 600Ohm headphones, and even 250s you'd need it on the highest setting. Considering from 64Ohm to 600Ohm, it only adds another 6dB.
Look at reviews online anyway, most people say the 80Ohm versions are better anyway.

Still, the STX is a great card - and probably the best you'll do with your budget. The only thing you'll beat that with would be like a D1 with a mega external DAC/amp.

It says temporarily out of stock, doesnt have an estimated date of when it would be dispatched, dont really feel like waiting a month or so for them.

If both were in stock or even if the 80ohm ones would arrive a few days later i'd pick those but yeah..

I dont really trust creative with high spec sound cards,

id go to xonar, make sure you get a card with inbuilt amp to make headphones sound even better.

My bad, I thought you'd ruled out the STX since it was out of budget :/

And Also, Amazon probably isn't the only retailer to Stock 770s, might be worth checking out other sites, just in case

Yeah thought so too but after some thought i decided that lol

Your thoughts on the 770's? ive heard really good things about them!

DAC can upsample higher than most sound cards, e.g. 24/192. With an budget of 80, there isn't a lot of overwhelming headphones in that region. If you can find the Sennhieser HD518s, AKG 240/242 etc or up your budget slightly and go for the almighty Beyerdynamic DT770, which are in my humble opinion one of the best set on cans on the market in the budget range.
