Headset Or Headphones for gaming?

Hi,

I have have been reading posts and you all seem to recommend headphones over headsets.

James' recommendation seems to be sticking out the most

Get a pair of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-C.../dp/B003LPTAYI

With this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Speedlink-IN...pel+microphone

Is this recommended on the basis of using headphones for all entertainment purposes music, films & gaming?

Im purely looking for a headset for gaming mainly counter strike so sound is important. Im curretly using http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-5hv2 , however they are nearing the end. Im also using an Integrated HDA 7.1 Dolby Digital capability. Saving abit more and getting a sound card as well?

Current budget is £150.

Definitely save more and get a soundcard.

If the budget's there, you can probably manage better headphones than those.

The ones Pexon mentioned in your other thread are probably the best bets for £50.

If you can save more for a soundcard or external DAC/Amp, I'd go for that. Maybe even if it's something like a Fiio external device (E7 or E10), then go for a better set of headphones like Beyerdynamic DT770s/DT990s, or some of the Sennheiser options.

For gaming I actually prefer having a proper headset... not having to faff around with getting all the cable to line up with clip on mics is a big plus, and so is the ease of use...
Having said that, if your goal is to get something which you will use for both gaming, and then listening to music on the side too, you might be better off with a Asus Xonar card, Creative Live Arurvana (CALs) and a clip on mic...

Then again, with a £150 budget you could probably fit both, which would mean you get the best of both worlds...

To be honest it all depends on how much you want to listen to music... if it's 80% gaming, 20% music, I'd just say get a nice headset and be done with it... if it's 50/50, the downsides of cabling and general faffing might be outweighed by the glorious sound of a good pair of cans and a sound card...

I personally went with a headset because its much more convenient, no/less cables to fiddle with. I went with a G930 as its wireless (wired when charging, obvs) so there aren't any cables that i have to mess with or just in plain sight.

The mic quality on the G930 isnt bad at all, i've not had complaints from friends when ive been speaking to them. The audio quality on them for gaming is not bad at all and the virtual 7.1 helps a liiitle bit when playing bf3. For general stuff like movies or music, im not an audiophile or anything but i would have to say that they're not bad at all too, not the greatest but it would do. I tend to switch over to my in-ears(which i will not say what brand because alot of you will hate me for it) if i was going for long music listening sessions.

Oh and for the price, the G930 fits your budget or if you want to go wired there's the G35 and you could save some money and get a soundcard for the sake of having a soundcard

Thanks for the reply everyone. I have looked into all your suggestions and they are all great and very nice looking however I'm still undecided on what to do.

In regards to your suggestions would they require must settings/profile tweaking as I don't have a clue when it comes to audio?

Is it worth investing in a headset or headphone that allow you to upload presets from the company or other user? There are only gona be used for gaming.

Im also now considering a cross platform usage (ps3).
