Best socket 775 mainboard for overclocking quad core?

What are the current best mainboards for overclocking quad core socket 775 CPUs, even regardless of price? Although some that have good price/performance ratio would also be nice to see.

Why go Quad? If you are after high clocks, the Core 2 Duo chips are much better overclockers. I have had 4GHz+ from an E8400 on stock air. I only managed 3.6GHz stable on a Q9550. Gaming wise, the E8400 performed better too, because of the higher frequency.

I'm aware, I usually use my computer for other things than gaming (programming/software development, cryptography related work, GIMP [yes, I run GNU/Linux] and all the trivial associated desktop rot like Firefox and friends), so this is a difficult choice -- I'm likely not going to do much gaming after this summer is over for a long time (probably some around Christmas-time) -- as such, ad interim I'd like to be enjoy a quad core system.

Also, you should be aware that while CryEngine 2 does not scale > 2 CPUs, e.g. UnrealEngine 3.0 does scale to at least 4 and does benefit from it, check out some benchmarks on e.g. Mirror's Edge.

which chipset would you like mate?

Nvidia or intel

Intel are normally the best for overclocking and stability

Nvidia are hot as hell not superb overclockers but you have a gtx 295 so you might want too sli in the future

Quad would be good for you then, but seeing as you asked about the best 775 board for OC'ing, I did think it relevant to mention the Core 2 Duo's. I sold my Q9550 a while back now for the upgrade to my i7 920 so no worries on multi core support in game. I try not to get too hung up on benchies with games, I prefer to judge a game on the playability over any other factor. I have bought too many visually pleasing games to end up have them collecting dust after a week or two.

I'm not really quite sure. If Intel is truly better in general for overclocking then Intel.

How much further does the dual cores (for Core 2) usually overclock than the quad cores? Stepping: E0.

i'd look at the rampage formula x48 or Rampage extreme x48 if your rich and want too jump too ddr3 and probally the cheapest board but nicest clocker is the Asus maximus II formula board

i havnt been watching the x48 since the I7 release and it sure has took some impact £99 for that board is amazing
