Ok, ill be getting Hypers system off him soon and i was wondering what the best OS for gaming would be?

I read on Tom's Hardware at the start of the year that XP was better than Vista 32bit for games, is this still true?

I will have a 64 bit CPU so the choices are:

XP

XP Media Center Edition

Vista 32bit

Vista 64bit

Any input will be helpful :)

Stick with your XP MCE you got already. MC is fairly good (specialy with the m-play mini:p). Vista isn't quite there yet imo.

I swear my gaming performance has dropped since i went on MCE! Plus media center doesnt wanna play my videos anymore, piece of crap :( might go back to XP... but Vista looks so nice lol

I have MCE on my laptop for freeview and it was crashing every night :(

I am using MediaPortal now.

I've never played any games on it tho, so I'm not sure but it is just XP Pro with a media center and domain networking disabled.

Well in that case yeah, just XP. Vista in as little as a few months may be up to scratch, but atm its not really worth it.

Isnt service pack 1 meant to be comming out soon for vista? that may fix some

MCE is XP Pro with an addon Media Centre afaik

Yeah i think so but my 3DMARK06 went down by 10% after making the change from XP to MCE :( Don't know why. O well, atleast I have a legal copy of XP and dont have to buy Vista till a later date when its a bit cheaper.

XP Pro install, run through XMS`s strip-down guide on the forum.

I`ve found all kinds of things increase performance since doing that.

I`m using Vista on a laptop atm, if it wasn`t for the part of me fighting to give the thing a chance, I`ll be uninstalling it soon. W8 for a service pack and a re-jig of the freakin window-explorer interface.

I believe there is a nLite thingy for use on Vista too, don`t know if any1`s tried that.

Yep Vlite. It doesn't really improve the performance of Vista much, just slims down the install quite a bit :)

XP Pro/MCE

Isn't MCE just XP Pro with network limitations

yea NO Activ-Dir << it can be hacked back ...

XP + the ehshell program - A-D

If you can get away with it (some still can) win 2k will give slightly better performance still
