best nvidia card 1080p only

I'm looking to jump ship back to nvidia but unsure what card I should get for just 1080p gaming.

no I will not be going 4k or using multi monitor set up.

current specs are i5 4430 haswell

If you are in on a budget then the R7 265 new gpu from amd will give you great performance. Its closes Nvidia competitor is the GTX 750ti but it is not as fast, still consumes little power though.

If you have a bigger budget than a R7 270x or a GTX 760 are both very good cards.. after that a R9 290/GTX 780 are the cards you could look at.

Keep in mind the faster the card the more watts you will need.

I do have a 7870 but would like a nvidia card money isn't a issue but at the same time dont need something crazy like a titan lol

A decent 500w Corsair unit would easily handle a 4430 and a 780.

You'd get away with an RM450 and still have a fair amount of headroom to be honest.

It depend on exactly how much you want to spend.

Anything from the GTX 760 and up would be a an upgrade for you.

GTX 760 would be around £210
GTX 770 would be around £260
GTX 780 would be around £400
GTX 780Ti would set you back around £550

depends really how much you want to spend, have a look at some of the reviews on the main site to judge what kind of performance would suit you best. The 770 looks like the best price to performance ratio but if you want better buy better.

Also just found this 770 for £230 on scan, looks like a good deal there, but not sure on branding.

Maybe its better value in the US? Personally I think its better value then the 770 at the moment, especially for the long term side of things. The 760 is not worth it imo, you can pick up a 680 for the same price if you look hard enough.

The 780 blower coolers are nasty though, don't touch D:

If you want to max all games with at least 60 FPS then go 780.

If you don't mind sacrificing a few settings and or don't mind playing at a slightly lower frame rate then the 770 will be good enough.

The 780 is proberley the best to go with though because the 770 is starting to age and performance in newer games is better with the 780 and will be better for upcoming games later down the line, where as the 770 wont be.

780 is indeed a wicked little card and will be epic in pretty much every game

I think the 780 should be the one to go for if its in your budget. Itll be overkill for most games out there at 1080 but there are still several thatll take advantage of it like Crysis 3, FarCry 3, BF4 and so on. If the 780 isnt in your budget, then a 770 would be your next choice. Itll still have enough grunt to give you playable frame rates on pretty much anything out right now at 1920x1080 at max settings. You might have to turn down the AA a tick or two on games like Crysis 3 but other than that, youll be set.

And yeah for power supplies, unless youre into PSU overkill like I seem to be, a QUALITY 500 watt unit is enough for any single card configuration.

So what size PSU would you need for a 780?

It depends on the whole system and how much you want to overclock the CPU and GPU. Based off your earlier post with your rig specs i would say no lower than a 550Watt PSU. If you ever plan on SLI then going to need about 850watts to be safe.

i've seen plenty of people run a 780 on a 500W PSU without having any problems, you'd need an overclocked hexacore and full load to make a 500W PSU budge.
same goes for SLi, 750W gold is good enough.

550watts to 500watts isn't really a big difference.
In Toms testing the 780 SLI used up almost 700watts of power so i suggested a higher end one for more longevity and headroom for OC'ing the GPU.

According to Anand, a pair of GTX780's will draw 642 at the wall at full load. So a 650 watt power supply would be fine but I like a little PSU overkill so Id agree with the 850 notion if youre gonna eventually be rolling SLI and maybe overclocking.

the power draw at the wall and the amount of wattage psu outputs are two different things. efficiency
