hey everyone

Ive been wanting a good set of headphones for quite a while now, everyone complains about the z5500s so Ive got to buy some good headphones for myself,

I do really like my music and stuff, I also game but tbh Id prefer headphones that are mainly good for music/movies + some nice bass

I was looking at getting the Sennheiser HD598 Dynamic Headphones but tbh I really have no Idea whats good and whats bad when it comes to brands. I also have

the xonar stx in the rig so Im sure I can get some good quality sound

Bose is expensive, but not overpriced for the quality.

They even have a cheaper line and they are just as good.

I personally love BOSE headphones.

I have these and they are incredible! Except they are wired.

Aha! The wired ones looked spookily the same as one American Airlines use in business class. (last time I flew with them anyway)

Damn fine headphones, I have to be honest.

But in relation to the *$600* remark I made, I'd not personally spend $300. At the same time I'd concede that people pay for what they want and enjoy.

I cringe at the £100+ we spend on headphones in the broadcast/filming industry - so I'll shut the hell up from this point.

I like my Audio-Technica M50

They are very popular and have a great value. You can find them for 150$ - 200$ in Europe and just under 100$ in the US if you are lucky.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro and it seems to work well. I'd still prefer to spend my savings on a better speaker system over headphones though.

$600 for headphones is a waste unless you have a VERY top quality amp. Unless you have a $1000+ amp you will be wasting your time with $600 pair of headphones.

Absolutely. I'm just running the HD280 Pro from the Xonar Essence ST at the moment. It's probably good enough for my headphone needs.

tbh 600$ is the price range i wouldnt buy headphones in. im not sure how much they cost in $, but in the 300 Eur(approx 400 dollars) range i would choose beyerdynamic dt 990s(preferably the 600 ohm version) . Anything around 500-600 dollar isnt going to be noticeably better. If you really want to go high end i would recommend some grado headphones, but those will cost you around 800 $ and will require a headphone amplifier to be used at their full potential(also don't expect too much bass from them, they're audiophile headphones^^)

i agree that you need to have a dedicated headphone amp in order to benefit from high quality headphones. but saying that you need a 1000$ amp is incorrect imho. From my experience a headphone amp worth around 400-500 euros will not sound much different from a 1000Eur one and the little differences certainly don't justify the cost. Imho buying really expensive amplifiers is only justified when you're using very high quality speakers

I defiantly exaggerated a little, but you still need a very nice amp either way.
