But when you say 3.5mm jack for iPod - is that the primary use? or what?

DT770's if you like bass and heavy music or the DT990's for a more open sound. The Sennhieser 598's and Denon ATH-2000 are AWESOME if you can stretch too their price. The Grado SR (lower end) range is in your price range and I will say that if your music is metal, get the SR80's and a Fiio amp/dac and tape it your iPod.
