Best gaming keyboard?

Well I'm looking to replace the wireless desktop I originally got when I had a broken leg, and starting with the keyboard, I'd like something which is good for gaming and general typing. I like the idea of backlit but nothing too tacky. After reading the excellent review of the Eclipse II on here I'm just about set on it but I'd like to get a few opinions first.

Requirements are:

>Proper keys none of that low-profile/laptop stuff

>Not too noisy when typing

>below £40

Size isn't really a concern as I have a pretty big desk. My main worry why I might choose the Eclipse I over II is that I've heard the backlight isn't as bright on the second one? Anyway any feedback would be appreciated.

Best Gaming ?

G15 Mk 1 (blue backlit) - get one b4 they go out of fashion.

Failing that, settle for the Mk 2 (orange back lit).

Under £40 and flatter profile.. hmm I`m stuck.

Even though I loved my G15 Mk 1 the spotty key syndrome (pics on 3rd page of thread) was annoying. According to Logitech it was a known problem

Ya I`ve read that a few times and seen some pictures on here for either Jim or Kemp. They were of a different make-up than the one I have, must be a revision thing. Mine get`s a fair bit of use too.

I have G15 rev 2.. Not too bad but the backlight isn't distributed properly.. E.G num lock key only half the button is lit. Same with other buttons.

However uncool they are, I think that my Zboard Merc is wicked for gaming. It's hard to convince women your not a complete geek when they see it though..

Cheers for the replies guys- I hadn't considered the G11 up to now but it looks real nice for the price, read a review or two comparing it to the Eclipse II and it seems to compare favourably, being called less "clicky" and having deeper, slightly stickier key-presses which is what I want tbh cos I do bash the keys quite a bit and like to know that it's either pressed or it isn't. Also the lighting doesn't look to bleed through the key-gaps as much, which seems pretty decent.

Funny when you think you've got your mind made up then all of a sudden you havent a clue lol.

Gotta be another vote for the G15 rev 1,no spotty keys around here, think they sorted that out ages ago,i use it alot and have no wear what so ever :D

as said can be had for a decent price nowadays and imo looks better than the rev 2 orange one.

the lcd and g keys are good too.

Raging.

saitek eclipse 1!!! lol

no...iv rubbed my keys to death and wasd is the worst hit area

eclipse 2 looks nice tho

whatever you do dont get Saitek Cyborg. Got that to replace my Saitek Eclipse II, which i killed by spilling some juice on. Anywho, the keyboard is only good at night when you cant see the tackyness, the hole thing is a piece of tack plastic. i hate the chrome keys, good thing i replaced most of them (apart from space) with normal black ones from my dead Eclipse II. One thing i love about this keyboard is the range of colours, i never thought how cool the backlit green would actually look. But in theory i wish i would have gotten myself G15, v2 though as i think the blue backlit keys attracts way too much of attention, causing eyes to get tired quickly and basically have red pulsating veins all over :D

Get a G15 rev 1. Have had it for about a year now, all the keys are still perfect and the LCD is awesome.

I have a G15 rev. 1. Lovely thing, but annoyingly hard to keep looking nice, and my lcds are starting to fade :( (it is 3 years old mind you)

I brought an Eclipse II last night. Managed to get it for £19.99 through the Price match at PC World.

I've impressed with it, nice sold weighty build, only thing i don't like is the fact that some of the lights stay on when the PC is off, though you can just dim the lights all the way off to solve it.
