Best for Battlefield 3

Hi everyone

I'm trying to deside on what GPU to play battlefield 3 on 1920 x 1080 on high settings, ultra would be good but not necessary.

I have a budget on £155 so if someone could help that'll be awesome

I wouldn't go quite a low as a 570, the minimum fps doesn't give you much to play with at all. Also for that price (£200) you can get a 7850 which gives you a cosy 2gb of vRAM and will overclock to the stock performance of a 7950.

I really think the 7850 is the mid range card to beat at the moment with the 7950 taking the top performance card. They both are cheap compared to their competitors yet overclock so well that they..

Scratch that since you posted whilst I was typing!

for £150 hmm.

My first choice would be to wait a month or so to let the prices of the 7850 fall and let you get an extra £50 quid together.

My second choice, if you had to buy today would probably be looking at the second hand market. For £150 you really aren't going to get anything new that will have much legs on it in the future (and will only really just pass BF3 on ultra today) so you will fairly quickly be jumping down the game settings.

Hang on, could you find £20 to stretch to £175 for this?

, how about if I have medium settings

You are going to have to spend 50 more. You cannot afford to get anything with less than 2gb.

not true. i have a 1gb 560ti Hawk and i play on very high with 60fps. sure i can't play at ultra on much more than 30fps but doesn't bother me

I am doubting that you get a stable constant 60fps.

i occasionally drop to 40 but very rarely. i agree you'd need at least a 570 or better to get a constant 60 fps but i disagree that a 2gb card is needed for 1920x1080 (on high not ultra)

It's an awkward price issue you have just because you are soooo close to a 7850. There are a load of cards out there which will play bf3 at medium/high settings. My overclocked 5850s would do that quite happily but I just loathe to advise someone to buy new a card which is really getting to be over-the-hill. It feels like you would just be wasting £50 worth of the value of the gpu. It's fine if you already own a 560 or equivalent because you will have already got your use out of it and they were great cards but I just can't quite bring myself to advising you to buy one new.

I would look into the secondhand market. There are lots of cards for £100-150 any of which would do. I'm thinking, in order of ascending preference:

560

6950

570

i would recommend the Asus GeForce GTX 560 Ti 900MHz OC

or the Sapphire Technology ATI Radeon 7850 920MHz 2GB OC
