Best Configuration for CAD & Graphic Work

Hi guys,

Im trying to finalize the GPUs I will buy.

The intended use is CAD and Graphic Work - NOT gaming.

So my options are (as I see them and please feel to offer me more):
  1. 2x Quadro 6000 paired with Tesla C2075 (would used Quadro to connect displays)
  2. 1x GTX690 paired with three Tesla C2075 (GTX690 supports 4 displays)

What are your guys thoughts?

Heads up with the Tesla, It is not compatable with SolidWorks or their products... but for engineering Quadros are THE WAY TO GO if you have the cash, even if you can't afford the 6000 anything Quadro will out do just about anything Geforce with CAD programs

EDIT: (Oh and only specific motherboards can SLI Quadros theres a list and they WILL NOT SLI on ANY non listed board)

Thanks for this - Im looking at using AutoCAD 2013 - I think (and correct me if I am wrong) but it does support the Tesla.

I'm looking at the EVGA SR-X or ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS, they support 4-way SLI, but not sure if they support it for Quadro. Would you really SLI this setup anyway?

Have you yourself tried?

I'm yet to find/hear of nightmare stories relating to the C2075 and configuring it with a Quadro 6000.

PS - Those 6 options do not have 2x Intel Xeon E5 2690s and do not have the hard-drive configs I would be after.

Yes, Yes I have, And I have told people that want me to do their builds I will never do them again and if they insist I pass them on to the next guy.

Lol, well It wouldn't be too relevant to your topic, the build was server based running individual VMs and using the cards to take the processing load... It was done, but it took me and 2 other people that can program way better than I can to get it to work properly
 
In all honesty you will never need it nor use it to its full potential unless you are doing massive computations. I am speaking from experience but you can do whatever you want its just my advice.

I'm just after some honest un-biased responses on how I could configure the GPUs.

While the 6 systems you linked me to are interesting they lack some specifications in terms of storage etc, it would be simpler to put together my own rig (I think).

Anyone else on here care to voice an opinion?

how many monitors are you planning to run, what kind of auto cad work exactly and how large of files and I can tell you what you NEED. Give me a realistic budget and I can tell you what I would get if it was mine.

  1. Run 4x 22-24" monitors (currently 22.5" wide - although they are in need of replacement - so my new ones will be between the 22-24"+ range).
  2. Do ALOT of 3D modelling with CAD software which on a standard computer takes upto an hour to model - want to cut that down significantly.
  3. 3DsMAX files range from 2.42MB to 750MB or more (depending on whats going on).

(PS - I can and do run a number of other matematical and computational things as well - but for now my main focus is CAD related and graphic design - Graphic Design files can be in the 10s of GBs - depending on what its for and the size of the graphic).

I would like to discuss this because your needs similar to one I built last year, what resolution would your monitors be, and whats the budget... resolution doesn't make too much of a difference, but the budget in reality does.

Well with monitors - still going through the decision process - but basically I've been looking at maybe some of the IPS instead of TFT ones.

(If you care to suggest monitors too
