Hello everyone, what do you think is the best graphics cards to buy for playing in resolution 1280x 1024 with high AA/AF. I am currently looking to buy a new graphics cards and got my selection down to 3 cards:

ATI 3870 512MB - around £140 ($275)

8800GT 512MB, - around £160 ($315)

8800GTS 512MB. - around £200 ($390)

Value for money is also a matter, i know 8800GTS 512mb is the best card in the list but is there a big different in performance in that resolution? Which card would you guys recommand to buy? The games i want to play are oblivion, Half life, World in Conflict and the new games that are coming out.

Thanks

up between the GT and the 3870 imo. If your price concious head towards the 3870.

You shouldn't be disappointed with any of them though tbh.

I would have said the Dleadtek as its core is clocked higher out of the box but the Asus has a 3 year warranty compared to a 2 year warranty on the Dleadtek

On another forum we have been talking to Palit. They were asking if a Lifetime warranty mattered.

Do you remember what GPU you were using 2 years ago. Mine was a X800GTO, just imagine if I sent it in to be fixed.

This subject would make a good thread, who has had a GPU failure and what was it like to get it fixed after an extended period. (maybe a failure in the 1 to 2 year period)

I see your point and I've often thought that myself but I did keep my 5950 Ultra for a couple of years as I didn't have the money to upgrade.. Had it died I woulda been cardless. Could have picked up a better card than it for pretty cheap I suppose but still meh up to the individual I guess.

I would go with EVGA lifetime warranty and they dont mind if you remove the stock cooler as long as you dont damage the card,or BFG 10 year warranty.

8800GT is a great card for the money but if you have a few more pennys go for the GTS 512MB.

That is an older version of the GTS in that link.

The newer G92 GTS outperforms the GT not 100% sure if the price difference is jutifiable for the performance increase but that is another discussion.

EDIT: Best way to tell them apart is the memory on the older models come with either 320MB or 640MB

I've got a GT and its pretty awesome :)

The stock heatsink is trash, so consider swapping that out pronto. After that your set, I run the same res and can't think of a game that it struggles playing (aside crysis on > high)

Oh ok, that makes sense. So the newer GTS's are better than the GT's like they're supposed to be then? lol. Well I think I'd still rather get a GT cuz price to performance ratio wise I really don't think anything's better atm anyways.

EDIT: Hey Ali_james, what aftermarket cooler did you get for it? And what's the best one you know of?

Either the accelero2, the zalman vf1000 or the HR-03GT.

Basically the only 3 good ones and they all do pretty much the same. Accelero is best but IMO zalman looks nicer.

Cool thanks man. I'll be sure to get one of those when I get my card then.
