Best backup software?

I need to know what's the best complete backup software available. I pretty much want to be able to create a ghost image of my drive, but have it in a backup format rather than a true ghost image.

What will best restore file structures and Windows settings/registry values?

If your looking for a partition backup thing, that`ll also let u browse the files within the backup - Ghost does that with it`s GhostExplorer, it`s been years since I`ve used it, but it`ll save out a massive file and allow u to browse what u`r looking for and copy out files/folders.

I`m trying DriveImage atm, not used the browse part of it, but the disk imaging works really well, gives u a boot cd and so on.

Now the bit I got unstuck with here is the reg backup. Outside of saving it from regedit I`m not too clued up on it. Even though I`m aware there are tools out there that do it, the likes of the RegCleaners etc.

Assuming u`r looking for a 2 in 1 ?

I think Ghost will do the trick... I am eyeballing Ghost 12, I might pick it up and give it a shot.

I'm getting ready to tri-boot 2k3, nix, and osx86 so I wanna make sure I have my essential Windows software stored safely in an easily restorable manner.

That would be my choice too back up.

Has a tri-boot been done before?
Yes, it's not that huge of a deal really tbh. I've done it with slack, ubuntu, nd winders unless I used a VM, I forget :p

I'd use ghost, i think you have the option to save it as an ISO instead of ghosts own format. Saving it as a ISO would mean you can use other tools to "look" into it.

Double check what options you have first though.

Norton is t3h gay.... I got Ghost 12, and it's not compatible with Server 2k3 *sigh* I think I'll burn down Norton's headquarters for being so retarded.

By using software like this, would I be able to upgrade to Vista from XP and then use the backup to bring the files I want onto my new install of vista?

not what ghost is normally for, i'd just buy a cheap USB hard drive and copy your files to that manually.

Sorry i should of mentioned that i think your need the corp version, maybe called suite. Not the home version.

Acronis True Image - forget Ghost it's horrible (and actually a renamed Drive Image due to a buyout) by comparison.
