Permafrost

Compo Whore
Hi guys ad girls i was thinking of overclocking now that i have a NH-D14, and i was wounding whats that best software for newbies.

thanks for you help

this is my setup:

CPU: i5-3570k
SSD: ocz agility 3 60gb
MOBO: asrock Z68 extreme 4
RAM: 8gb (4gb X 2) PNY XLR8 1866mhz
HDD: 1tb and 320gb
PSU: XFX 850w
CASE: nzxt switch 810
GPU: waiting for HD 8000

It is not advisable to overclock via software as often the overclocks can be unstable. If you want to overclock do it via the BIOS.

Personally speaking, I use Intel Burn Test's maximum preset to test my short-term stability. It creates more heat than Prime-95.
Keep your temps below 80*C and your volts below 1.4v.

Once you've found your 'sweet spot' using IBT, switch to Prime 95 and let it run for a good 12 hours.

hi guy just an update, ive got 4.2 with an offset of -0.065V and temp is on all cores are not even hitting 60.

how am i doing?

mobo is a asrock z68 extreme4 gen3

Hi, just started overclocking myself.

Im using prime95 to test for heat over long periods - i use the small packet option as i dont want to test RAM as thats not being overclocked.

I use Intel burn test to quickly test if im near stable (a quick 10 cycle on standard lets me know if im getting close)

Then Aida64 for a few hours mainly beause it give you a few charts and some info on whats happening. It also has built in monitoring software so it lets you keep a close eye on things like motherboard sensors and fans.

Then its on to OCCT which seems to stress my CPU the most, if ive got through all the others then im very close but OCCT will usually pull up an issue. Its good beacuse it saves lots of charts so you can look back at what failed and when.

Intel burn test from what i can gather stress tests the cpu very quickly - some people say 20 cycles on IBT is equal to 12 hours of P95. I dont know about that and i just use is as a quick 5min check so i dont waste 12 hours between changing OC settings.

Then i like to stress a bit, open a beer, jump on google and find out more about all this overclocking nonsense! lol

Good write up mate, never used Aida64 I'll have to give this a go.

Do like the part about "Then i like to stress a bit, open a beer, jump on google and find out more about all this overclocking nonsense!"

Sounds like someone else I know....

Cheers mate.
